  • While its sad to see him leave its been blown way out of proportion, It will be beneficial for both Latrell and the Roosters if he is released immediately. If he lacked motivation at times this year imagine 2020 when he knows he will be leaving in 2021......not to mention the disharmony it will bring to the dressing room.

Everyone should remember if the Roosters were going to pay him 1 million plus a year it would have been Manu who would have had to move on. The salary cap does make you a victim of your on-field success

Thanks for the memories Latrell you were awesome.....but its time to move on

Mundine’s advice to Mitchell is to get as much money as you can
Mundine's advice …"he should do whatever he wants to do" ……..which is why Mundine is telling him what he needs to do !

      • I can't see him at the Chooks in 2020.
His performance in the test, especially when he didn't dive on the ball, about 70 mins, and Cordner giving him a blast, tells me his days at the Chooks are numbered. I heard Robinson talking about how Cordner was a key figure in deciding who was in the team, and that lack of effort, compared to, for example, the effort of Tedesco in the 78th minute, tells me they've had enough of him. He is not a good investment at $800K. He needs a couple of years elsewhere to realise how good he has it at the Chooks.

        • Never seen anything like the coverage of this Latrell saga, the News Ltd papers are literally writing another story every other hour, Dean Ritchie now reporting rival clubs have soured on Latrell and he isn't getting the offers he expected, also that Fat Richo has advised Latrell to stay at the Roosters.

Rooster_6 We're not viewing it the same way. Your perspective seems to be based on the premise that releasing a statement was "petty shit" that "serves no purpose". I disagree. The club had their reasons and clearly decided to get on the front foot on this occasion. I don't claim to know their reasons, though any of us can theorise. What I have indicated is that I appreciate the transparent communication.

Quite how any of that reflects on my loyalty as a supporter, my understanding about the proper handling of sensitive information or otherwise belies "selfish desires" that are primary to the "needs of the club" has got me miffed. I'm sure you'll advise me in due course. Can't wait.

Lot of people playing games with Latrell.

Clubs feigning interest to force Roosters to pay overs and negate our ability to chase other signings (? Fafita).
Clubs using the imminent signing of Latrell to resign players cheaper or without protracted negotiations (Bulldogs / Watane Zelezniak)
Clubs using Latrell to let preferred signings know they have options (Cowboys / Holmes)

Latrell might learn a hard lesson here but again, he is a young man being completely misguided and mismanaged.

But good luck to him. He’s a pleasure to watch.

                • I think its just the Roosters rotating our squad as you always do after a successful period...Latrell and others are the ones chosen to protect the teams quality and integrity....Its just business as usual...

Ha Ha, Cheers Thirteen. I'm actually in Port Macquarie so I have a rough idea where Taree is. Maybe my sarcasm needs to be a touch more sarcastic.

But it looks like negotiations with other clubs aren't going to plan? If so, can we or will we take him back?

Really think him and his team have been played Fletch. Why would Richo advise Latrell to stay at the Roosters? Perhaps Souths offered him something they never intended to honour and realise the damage it will do their brand if it comes out.

Maybe he is not lost to us yet and will appreciate that people come before football at the Roosters.

You’d like to think that if he can’t get the deal he wants elsewhere then he and the roosters might be able to kiss and make up and he’d stay but it seems like things have probably progressed too far for that. But you never know.

I think clubs have wised up and become a lot more prudent about their million dollar player investments after the likes of the Ash Taylor and Ben Hunt debacles.

They've seen how spending that much money on the wrong player can hamstring you for half a decade. Where as when you spend it on the right players - Teddy and Cronk - it wins you Premeirships.

So I've no doubt that clubs are sitting back and saying "how can we offer a centre 1m per year, especially if that centre has issues at the b2b Premiers and under Trent Robinson AND also has issues getting motivated to play for NSW and Australia?"

They'd have to be absolutely bonkers. Perhaps we know this, hence why we took the deal off the table.

Maybe once the dust settles and only an absolute basketcase like the Tigers or Gold Coast offer Latrell his 1m we can sit back down - only this time with a 750k per year offer

I reckon Uncle Nick is the man that he is because he is magnanimous and forgiving of a young man's folly. I'm sure he'd make it the original amount if it came back to that.
