  • Let’s not forget that a lot of Mitchell’s brilliance has come from the players around him setting him up. Many of his greatest tries were set up by Keary & Co. He does score a lot of tries but not all of them are due to individual brilliance. The GF looked like he won it for us but Cordner and Keary set it up. Without them there would have been no flick pass and no try. I think Cordner simply told nick and Robbo he’s not worth the asking price and we are finding that out now. The so called hottest property in the NRL by now should have been picked up by any number of clubs but they seem to be very cautious and rightly so. He was ditched from origin for a reason and clubs must be wondering why Easts are not so keen on him? By the contract being removed it has devalued him because if b2b champions don’t care if he goes then there must be good reason. I think he’s embarrassing himself as he’s finding out he’s not as good as his mentors have been feeding his ego.

I think the 'easy' $800k before negotiations was a pre-public negotiations offer that we put on the table all season as a sign of goodwill. IMO we probably even told him 'if you wanna negotiate with other clubs, this quick, easy deal's off the table'.

Now? He's chosen to test the water (which is smart IMO). Our public announcement is probably targeted at other clubs rather than trying to crush Latrell. That is... we offered $800k and he didn't sign... so that's where the bidding starts. Now we're potentially willing to match anything you offer as well too, so you can't bid $801k, you'll have to offer at least $1 million to have a chance.

I suspect Uncle Nick knows that truth be known, no club has or wants to spend $1 million on a centre and we are a very attractive club. Either:
      - another club blows our original offer out of the water;
      - another club offers a tiny bit more and we match it; or
      - Latrell comes back saying he'll play for $800k if we're still interested.

Honestly, 'offer off the table' means nothing. An offer is not binding and Latrell could come back with an offer if he wanted (which we'd probably accept).

Surely the Club is joking...he was the leading point scrorer in the NRL.
He's a vital part of our 'lethal left side'.

The club seems bent out of shape that Latrell wants to do the best for himself...but it does the best for itself all the time...wouldn't re-sign Tetevano, one of our best forwards/defenders., even though he wanted to stay.

Anyone who thinks we can win the comp next year without Latrell needs to have a serious re-think.
With or without him, next year's gonna be tough! But I mean... if we spend all our spare pennies on keeping one dude, we could be stuffed for the next 5-10 years. It's a long game and I suspect 2020 is gonna be tough either way.

We've got lotsa players coming through our system and when David Fifita's your only other 'high profile' option on the market, you know things are going pretty slowly. $1 million is either a lot of money that can do a lot of things or it's enough for 1 player. It's a big call for any club to make!

      • I won’t hate Lattrell if he leaves, in fact if he does not want to be here, let him go now, if not sooner, I have said it for years no 1player. Is bigger than the club, he is very talented and great with fans, he is also lazy, has a short fuse and prone to listening to I’ll informed advice from hangers on and self indulged Nuffies.

our previous captain and halfback thought he was invincible and irreplaceable, that worked out pretty well for us

I wouldn’t mind a break from winning the comp next year, too much stress at finals games, be happy to slum it with the titans and dragons for a year, then comeback strong in 2021.

Contrary to popular opinion BB we do not have a salary cap sombrero. We simply cannot keep every player. As our success increases so does the worth of each player. It's simple economics and accounting.

I get where you're coming from and maybe you're half joking, but you take a break from winning the comp then maybe you don't win one for a quarter of a century, if ever.

It's about culture and if you lose that it's hard to come back.

None of us have to worry about winning the comp atm. Just bask in the glory of back to back, enjoy some good footy next year, taking it week by week, hopefully get into the finals and then let the natural desire to win take us as far as it can.

Yes true. It will be interesting to see if any club is willing to pay Latrell more than the $800k we've offered. I really think Nick and Robbo are calling Latrell's management team's's bluff here. They think he's worth 1mil a year. Nick and Robbo are saying fine, go for it, we're not budging on our offer. If any other club has a spare 1mil feel free to take him.

He doesn't strike me as someone who would come back with his tail between his legs. This looks like a divorce for me.

And think what he would be like if he put in 100% or even 90% , but he doesn't , that's the point , he is a great player with plenty of unfilled potential , but he's lazy and goes missing .
That will effect the rest of the team , all workplaces eventually have this issue , good workers get the shits with the lazy ones and problems arise .

It works both ways. Mitchell's presence attracts defenders and creates space for those around him. Even when he does "nothing" he is doing a lot. If you don't know what I mean go and rewatch the 2017 prelim final when we had Matto and Maubs in the centres. Pay attention to the Cows compressing their defence and hammering our forwards and halves without fear of our outside backs running around them.

Having said that, no centre worth more than $800k. If Mitchell leaves he will be an immediate loss but over time we will use the money to strengthen the team elsewhere. We may end up with a Wighton or Fifita, or perhaps just a decent centre and a stronger bench.

                          • His manager claims Mitchell now wants to be a Cowboy. Very odd! Maybe Latrell was singing this song and his dumb arse manager took it as a request.

Have you ever had a positive thing to say about the Roosters, BB? Ever? I know I've raised this question with you before and I have had suspicions you were either a troll, a simpleton or just heavily medicated, but your posts are pure misery.

Did you know we won the comp again in October? When we did, you said nothing. Not a single hooray. Instead you've lurked in the shadows until you felt you could once again emerge to tell us why all things Roosters are catastrophically beyond repair and that we are all doomed.
