  • Goal Kicking Dilemma

With the never-ending Latrel circus and media speculation about his future, our goal kicking options are pretty limited.

SST.. is very hit and miss, and doesn't play full 80 minutes.

Flanagan.. average goal kicker so far in reserve grade for the jets.

Keary.. I think he did a bit at souffs, but was never their first choice.

Billy Smith.. Read somewhere that he's done it at juniors?

If Latrel leaves, it leaves us very limited in the goal kicking department. Great thing is having Jason Taylor around to help with the limited options we have. Flanagan probably the realistic choice.

    Have I missed anyone?

Another Aubo thread?! There's already one just started. Obviously Aubo - if Robbo tells him to do a job he does it.

My thinking is he will be putting in BIG time with his goal kicking which will get him a start at 1/2. I think & hope he gets his goal kicking up around 90% & really develops in the halves next year.

I think Flanagan would have to be our best hope, wouldn't he, followed by SST when he is on the field? I agree with Mickie's point that Kyle would have an incentive to up his game given a full time halves spot could be up for grabs.

Some people believe supporting the Roosters
is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed
with that attitude. I can assure you it is
much, much more important than that.

I'll say the same thing I said when James Maloney and then Michael Gordon left. Anyone with a decent boot can become a first grade standard goalkicker with some good coaching and practice. Latrell Mitchell proves that.

Robbo and the coaches will find someone in the squad.

I’m more worried about line drop outs
              ..it’ll be interesting to see

Flanagan hits them sweet. Fitzy will help him hit them
                even sweeter.

They should all take turns. No specialist kicker.

                  That's fair.

+1. Someone like Keary could do it easily.

Wouldn't really call this a dilemma. Kyle Flano is a great kicker and will be next year, but who knows what they were practising over at the sharks this season with their kicking. Also we have to remember just like Latrell' s games this year, he was hot and cold with the kicking aswell - went from kicking around 26 in a row to really falling off in finals.

I know Flanagan's kicking was ordinary last year, but I'm pretty sure in the lower grades at Cronulla he was breaking some point scoring records in previous years.
I'm sure if he puts in the work, he can be a handy GK for us.

Flanno was a bit average last season but wasn’t too bad. He didn’t even have a goal kicking coach either so he will relish Fitzgibbon and Taylor helping him

I remember Latrell's kicking was terrible when he first took up the tee in 2018, then he improved immensely over the course of 2018/19. Flanno will probably go through the same faze, the good thing being at least he has had experience with the tee unlike Mitchell to start off with.

Which is why it's a very bad idea for our club to allegedly be keen to move Latrell on.
