I think a majority would agree JFC that even if looking through our sporting life lense where we all at least have a working knowledge of the subject matter Easts and Rugby League it is pretty apparent that the majority of modern media forms carry a level of subconscious at best or conscious bias in the way they deliver a story,

The Murdoch press publications have long been valued by me for its china wrapping qualities, its ability to start the log fire in winter, lining the kitty litter tray, etc. In recent years the SMH is working hard to move in on the Murdoch's monopoly in these areas through some of the shite that has been passed off as journalism.

She didn't do too well with the giant metal G-string she wanted in the middle of George St. From a 3.5 million budget to 22 million......and she still wants to revisit the idea in 2020. Her ego and desire to leave Sydney a legacy of her reign is really clouding ( pun intended!) her common sense.

As for Alan Jones- that old dinosaur pushing around Gladys and her government is the reason the SFS looks like ground zero. Im still astounded they didn't have Lend Lease sign a water tight contract committing them to the rebuild at the budget agreed upon...at least BEFORE pulling down the old one in such a hurry before that state election. If it was done on purpose then its corruption....if it wasnt then its an amateurs monumental blunder beyond belief.

Hey Mickie, any relation to Terry (the Elk) and Patty Lane who both played in the Colts first A Grade Grand Final win back in '67 along with Burt Zara, Brucey Ayshford, Johnny Grey, Mick Plant and Alan Gill (all familiar names to Tri colour dinosaurs I'm sure).

There were no jobs in Italy and if they wanted work they were told either Australia or USA had lots of job opportunities. When he arrived he got work after 3 days, lived in a tin shed with no ammenities for 3 years and spent most half of his weekly wage for 6 months paying someone to teach him english. There were no government handouts back then. He didn't complain, he wrote a letter to his brother in Italy saying he landed in the best country in the world....and his brother was on the next ship over.

My old man is now in aged care in his 90s but he is still with it enough to get pissed off hard about todays ( im thinking hard to remain politically correct) immigrants who are non contributors to our economy. I wont go further into his views but he is scathing of the government for how they have handled immigration and welfare. He rightly points out that if Australia had no job prospects in the late 40s,50s,60s & 70s there would not be 1 person of Italian ancestry living in Australia today ( that means no Mini or Teddy!) . He thinks of the last 30 years of immigrants, a large portion (not all) has taken advantage of what Australia has to offer without paying their dues.

If anyone is offended by any of that well i guess you would have had to live in his shoes to understand.
          Nice story Random.

Sounds very close to how and what my father experienced, leaving his village in Greece in 1957, bound for Australia by boat.

Similar scenario. Not knowing a word of English. Borrowing money from his uncle to get here, with "an empty suitcase". Sent money back to his uncle via his minimal wages he got.

Working and living conditions were tough. No handouts back then. He would go wherever work was available. Meeting other established Greek (and other European) migrants, moved around the Canberra area, then ended up in Bathurst, before finally ending up in Sydney in the 70's.

The modern day migrants have it a lot easier, with plenty of govt help and handouts. How times have changed, but not all necessarily for the better. Both sides of politics have dropped the ball regarding immigration in recent decades. Especially of how one now "qualifies".

Do you think the government has a preference? I mean we are down to only John Holland & Multiplex.....the culling to get down to these 2 wasn't done by the NSW government....these are the only 2 companies who are "interested". When you got 2 massive construction companies and no one else interested you can be sure that they aren't going to get into a bidding war over this. Dare i say it but a bit of colluding between the 2 isn't beyond the realms of possibility

It's also say to safe that this extraordinary long delay in announcing the winning tender is because the NSW Government isn't satisfied with either bid....so the negotiations are ongoing but the government isn't in a position of power. They put themselves in this predicament by knocking down the old SFS before designing and pricing the new one. The certainly can't go throwing 10s of millions extra into it now when so much of the state is in need of emergency funds. Gladys and anyone else in the NSW government involved in this should resign- the job of governing NSW is obviously beyond them if that cant get this right (PADDO COLT 61 will agree with this!!!)

Yes we will have a builder and yes we may even have it built by early 2022.....but you can be sure as well that it will be a significant watered down version....and they wont be cutting any fat off the corporate areas in doing do!

Fark I'm sick of politics. Just glad none of these dikkheads manage our club or my x-mas party coz they are all as fukking useless as each other.

Amazing how they can knock the thing down at all costs ASAP when they think they're gonna lose an election and wanna lock-in a big piece of pork barrelling for Jones + Murdoch. However, once it's locked in the whole thing goes to shyte and turns into another Sydney trams farce.

Glad I'm not living in NSW. This BS's all so primitive.

The State Government couldn't get the old one down fast enough before the election and then nothing....just chirping crickets and tumbleweed.

Wasn't this Alan Jones pet project? Earlier in the year he was a man possessed in pushing for a new one to be built but now seems to have 'forgotten" it.

Wouldn't the money tied up in this be project be handy for our struggling farmers now
Plenty of money for farmers now...all seemingly no-idea Morrison needs to do is awaken from his slumber and start writing out cheques.
Cheques to farm families for food, water, animal food, more water.
More Cheques to farm families so they can buy water for bathing [look at all that dust], tractor/machinery parts, dog food, clothes, toiletries, soup, shoes, hats, school uniforms etc...in their towns to keep the businesses in the towns alive.

French govt subsidises its farmers 73%...pours buckets of money over them..."To maintain the culture of rural France"

Not Australian govt...farmer digs a big hole on his/her farm, makes a dam, catches rain water to use for cattle, sheep etc.
Farmer has an outlet pipe with cap on it so water can be let out and used when needed, Govt puts a "lock and meter" on it, farmer has to pay tax on the water used.

Jeez, you're at it again. Pages 13&14 just about says it all BB. Even those Tele blokes (most of whom left school after Year 10 - like Ray Hadley by the way) aren't gonna stick their necks out for the Libs like they did with the Angus Taylor/Clover cluster ****. Funny, the DT used to deride Bob Carr unmercifully for big dreams no action but we don't hear that sort of thing now that the Libs completely stuff just about everything they touch. Looks all over like a hose down to me - seeing as it's on P13 and all.

"Bonanza for the people" Depends on what people you're talking about. Most of "the people" live a long way west of Anzac Parade and they don't connect with the Light Rail even though they and their kids are gonna have to pick up the gigantic cost of the over run for it. Nah, I'm sayin' "the people" are really the Trust (Alan Jones), the members and the AJC and their developer mates for whose benefit no cost to the working public is too high and I'm still looking forward to that Rugby museum commemorating Jonesy's (more correctly the Ellas') distant Grand Slam.

A little off topic but interesting. About ten or twelve years ago Paddo residents were surveyed on the topic of which sports crowd, leaving the SFS and making its way up to Oxford, were the worst behaved - things like pissing on terrace porches (no, not Porsches) breaking things like public facilities and plantings, leaving detritus en route etc. Those worst behaved by a long chalk were, no not Souffs, but our betters, the Super Rugby Rah Rah brigade! Now they're in government and you've done your bit to assist them BB - Tch...tch...!

Nothing like the Daily Telegraph for good wholesome honest reporting!! Now i'm going to turn over to Fox News who declared Donald Trump is the greatest world leader in history. Old Murdochs media is about as reliable as the Burgess brothers ball handling.

I see The Berejiklian government will miss its own deadline for hiring a new builder to construct the Sydney Football Stadium. They must still be feeling sore in the backside from the pumping Alan Jones gave them

Sounds like they've settled with one party. Just finishing up contracts.

Given Lendlease's potential legal issues with not paying their taxes it might have been a blessing in disguise.
