Exactly what do you mean by "its a song about a stupid Fair" ??? You're right that that theres no definitive answer because no one really knows......which makes me think how the hell can the title and main words to a national anthem have no real meaning???? i think the Scottish dude who wrote it tried " bear, tear, chair, despair, beware, nightmare, solitaire, prayer.......and thought "Fair " sounds like it belongs, means nothing but no one will notice too much

When your history on the land goes back 50,000 years and you were invaded ,captured and treated inhumane at best......you can see why any indigenous Australian would be reluctant to sing "for we are young and free"

Ill go back to my old analogy....if Germany won WW2 and controlled the country how many of you would be happy to sing the Nazi national anthem "Raise the Flag"??? Im guessing not many

I just feel sorry for them, because they have to live their lives dealing with the fact they are intellectually challenged.

        So...
        - The stolen generation policy was going on well into the 70's.
        - Mabo was in the 80's and 90's. Wik was in 1996.
        - Howard's 'intervention' was in 2007.
        - 2013 Goodes was called an ape, 2015 there was that odd 'booing saga' and 2019 we saw people trying to shut of those who refused to sing the anthem.
        - Do first year law at uni... we still don't have a satisfactory legal position on why we're still here and what kinda reparations we owe the traditional custodians of the land for invading. Long story short under international law, you could never just randomly declare war and take people's land from them for your own benefit. Countries like Japan paid us $$$ for attacking our soil during WWII and they didn't even take the land. England did worse than that. They just rocked up and 'settled' on the basis that nobody lived here (which wasn't true - hence Mabo and Wik... native titles still exist). Because this wasn't true they tried to hide it through genocide. This (illegal) genocide occurred well into the 1970's... well after Nazi Germany had ceased their genocide. Countries like NZ and Canada aren't perfect but they've got treaties in place that compensate traditional custodians for such things. We don't. We (non-indigenous Australians) have no satisfactory compensation scheme for illegally invading and committing genocide.

If you still don't get it, this shyte's 100% current. The discrimination and fight for equality + proper compensation continues in modern Australia.

Why say sorry for something 'you didn't do'. Well:
        1. Because the pain of modern events committed by non-indigenous Australians continues. We caused the pain through illegal invasion/genocide (in very recent years) and it's an apology on behalf of our peoples for the pain we have caused.
        2. Sorry is a starting point for moving forward. It's saying 'I accept that you were illegally invaded and in principle I support the establishment of a proper compensation scheme for what happened... let's talk and make it a priority'.

          Lovely.
          And now, we have now.

          Now...

          https://www.theguardian.com/sport/20...anthem-boycott

…….Ryan James says it is obvious Indigenous players do not want Australia’s national anthem played at next year’s NRL All Stars match....

A News Corp Australia report on Wednesday said the Australian Rugby League Indigenous Council is expected to present a submission to the commission requesting Advance Australia Fair not feature at the 2020 game.

                • I have never been convinced that "sorry" is the right thing to do, to me its too typical of the PC brigade, just a word without action and is meanlingless
I think something should be done, just not sure what. I also believe too many people not directly affected made too much noise about it.
I guess we need to understand what those that were stolen want.

I also think more indigenous history and culture should be taught in our schools. While I have none in my blood, I am Australian and believe its part of my culture
The Internet is a place for posting silly things
Try and be serious and you will look stupid

While I agree 100% with what you say , the trouble is that it never ends , the more people say sorry the more someone else says they want something more in return and on and on .
Its impossible to stop no matter who is right or wrong or what happened in the past or what happens in the future , some will just never move on .
We cant return to 1770 and stop what happened but we as a country need and must move to the future as a group and not individuals in order to heal .
if everyone was treated as equals , Change the dam Anthem , get rid of the union Jack on the flag , every person Indigenous white , pink , Asian and Muslim , all of us have an equal contribution and say , Imagine how great this great country could be . Some one used the analogy that if Germany won the war would we be happy sing there anthem and of course the answers not but another analogy could be if your child does something wrong and later apologies do you as a parent move on and accept that or continue to pick at the scab and let it fester .
I just think at some stage for everyone's sake we must move forward , but never forget the past and yes lets celebrate Australia Day but also commemorate Invasion Day.
The trouble with proper compensation is how much and where does it stop , no one will ever be happy , enough will never be enough , the only way forward is for all to start afresh from now.
Shit lets get back to what we are here for and talk about Latrell
                        Go the Roosters

                        • I wonder what our diggers would feel ,who have paid the ultimate sacrifice fighting for our freedom about changing the anthem. We would be doing them a massive injustice. It's part of our history , unfortunately there are other parts of our history Australia's should not be proud of , which is the treatment of aboriginal people and also the treatment of our youth both black and white in instutions. Maybe it's time to forgive and respect one and other... we can't change the past and if we keep picking at the wound it's never going to heal
