Rabbitohs coach Wayne Bennett has insisted Latrell Mitchell will not be joining South Sydney.

The Rabbitohs have been tipped to be Mitchell’s new home following his highly-publicised falling out with the Roosters.

Dane Gagai and Alex Johnston have been mooted as the potential Rabbitohs players to make way for Mitchell to arrive at Redfern.

Bennett secured a blue-chip signing for 2021 this week when Gold Coast Titans star Jai Arrow committed to South Sydney to become Sam Burgess’ replacement.


And he reckons that was the signing he was chasing, not Mitchell despite speculation South Sydney wants the Kangaroos gun.

“We won’t be signing Latrell,” Bennett told Blindside.

“We have enough centres. I am happy with Braidon Burns and James Roberts.

“I needed a forward to replace Sam.”


Bennett has played ducks and drakes with player signings before.

Earlier this year he insisted Roberts would not be leaving the Broncos to sign with South Sydney, only for the switch to happen weeks later.

Bennett later admitted he lied so the Rabbitohs could conduct negotiations without relentless speculation.

This is the problem with Latrell.. Clubs are willing to pay him big dollars for him to play Centre but he thinks he's a Fullback but he is not an NRL level Fullback but he wants the James Tedesco dollars to play there. If he is at all serious in his bid to play Fullback he needs to lower his expectations alot to match his experience he has in that position.

This is the problem with Latrell.. If he wanted to play fullback, he could have signed with the tigers for a million. Proven offer and only offer to play at fullback because they are desperate.

I woudn't care if Bennet signed a stat declaration ….I don't believe anything he says ...he has a track record of telling blatant lies so why would anyone take him at 'his word' this time.

Also, knowing Latrell has basically no other options, could be just a way to come back to LM with a low ball offer and say ..well that's all we can afford to offer an snap him up at an even cheaper rate

Latrells best option now would be to stay at the Roosters. He has a contract for 2020. He starts the year, plays out of his skin and the offers will come again. That would be the smart thing to do. Needless to say he and his manager aren’t the brightest lights on the Christmas tree .

Bennett said I have 2 centres, but he didn't say he wouldn't sign Latrell as a fullback. Given Latrell finds centre a chore and wants to play fullback, Bennett can hide behind that difference or say Richardson signed him despite Bennett's comment....I reckon souths is still the likely outcome !

I tend to think Souths will end up being his destination, although I would be totally happy and comfortable if he decided, after all of this, to stay on, as long as Robbo, Nick and the rest of the club are happy with that. I cannot see it happening, but funnier things have happened.
