FWIW the house ended up burning down. Really sad but as somebody said, the memories will live on.

Further, the island + beach that you look out onto from our front yard is a traditional fishing spot for the traditional owners of 'our' land. I imagine they woulda lived on the same land for thousands of land until some white dudes came in with guns and rounded them off it while stealing their children, so I can't feel too sorry for myself.

It's all insured. Dunno what's next really but rates in the area are now ~$8000 a quarter because people now pay many millions of dollars for these blocks. We won't be able to afford to keep this as a holiday home forever regardless. It's tempting to investigate how we can give it up to a local indigenous group on a deal where they get a significant discount on rates. Dunno if they'd want it but I reckon it'd be pretty cool if instead of being bought up by some millionaire and turned into a largely unused McMansion, this land could be a little more special to somebody.

What I’m seeing from the south coast is horrendous. Seeing young people being killed whilst serving with the RFS is devastating. As is the folk who have died trying to defend their properties.

The thing that has impressed me the most is people in small communities is they will really band together on the whole to support each other both in responding to the fire as well as looking after each other afterwards.

I hope we can see an end to the current fires soon. Hop everyone else is good and safe.
Hope your okay Frozen Chook or should I say cooked Chook?

              Glad you’re OK Frozen.

Sorry about your place, Ism. Looks like we’ll lose ours too, the last update, which was 2 hours ago, had it right on our fence line.

Very sorry to read of the news ism, Frozen and Waylander. It is hard for those of us living in metropolitan/built up areas to understand what it must be like to live with and be impacted by such awful bushfires. We are thinking of you at this time.

Some people believe supporting the Roosters
is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed
with that attitude. I can assure you it is
much, much more important than that.

Thanks for thoughts Waylander and Rabid. You people down the south east of the state are having a terrible time down there. I hope you get lucky waylander I had two friends who returned home and their properties were completely black and burnt out but the RFS saved both their houses.

Like our club has shown, everything can be rebuilt.
                    Hopefully for the better.

Sorry to hear about the fellow Chookpenners who have lost their houses. As a Canberran, our family love the South Coast. It’s so sad to see the area destroyed by these horrible fires. Beautiful Mogo and the other areas around Batemans Bay and further down to Merimbula are some of our favourite places.

Yes mate, we are OK. I got a call from our neighbour at lunchtime with good & bad news. The fire moved over our whole property, but not too viciously. Our shed is OK, but my brother in laws is gone. Most importantly, the neighbours home survived too. He & his family stayed to defend their house and were putting out spot fires on our place before they were forced to leave. We are deeply in their debt.
