Why on earth would the Titans release their best player? For a little bit of cash (which surely should count under the cap) and a crummy player swap?
Yeah here's the problem with Wayne... he focuses on trying to get a premiership this year without thinking about the next 3 years.

He's now put himself in a position where he has:
    - Actively encouraged 2 players to get dodgy doctor's certificates allowing them to 'retire' into 'mentor' kinda roles on the same salary as they woulda gotten if they played.
    - Is now actively trying to force Gagai + Johnston outta the team when they've got $$$ contracts (and Wayne has no swap deal going on).
    - Expects teams to release players early because that would suit his premiership ambitions (especially after encouraging Burgess to retire early).

The guy's a dead set flog. I hope Gagai leaves early, Latrell goes to the Tigpies and Arrow goes to Souffs in 2021 with Skeletor struggling to make the 8. Meanwhile Billy Smith + Flanno will have breakthrough seasons... of course, we'll be criticised for buying in players whereas the media will be like 'Souffs have this awesome indigenous connection going on that catches all the local indigenous Australians from Redfern like eeerm... Gagai and GI! Both from Redfern I swear and Gagai's still with us!!!'

Fat Richo and Long Tall Sally are both bare-faced lying to the media re Lattrell. Consistent with the toxic culture of their club though. So I would take any of their public commentary on recruitment with a grain of salt.

Yeah, they’re trying to get Latrell as cheap as they can and hopefully get Easts to chip in.

        Hopefully some other club swoops
        ..it’ll be interesting to see

I would rather our club retain Latrell and pay him to stay away from the club, then chip in and pay for him to play for Souths

You get the feeling that may be the case. We could offer to chip in for other clubs other than Souths and force his hand.

But other clubs know we don’t want a $700k player on the books not playing.

I thought his current contract was for $400,000 a season.
I would be happy the club pay half that for him to play elsewhere, I don't see him as a player to build a team around.
Here he was just a player who was surrounded by stars which made him look better than he is (he is still a great player just not a star player)
Letting him sit around doing nothing all year will have him bored with lots of money, a higher chance of getting into trouble with the headlines saying Rooster player does XXX, just cut him loose and cover $200,000 of it.

Read he was on $450k last year, with this year backended at $60k per month, $720k pa. Which is probably why he didn’t take our $850k new deal because it was only a slight increase.

Another reason Souths are waiting as long as they can so we can chew up as much as that as possible.

Makes me wonder if this game was playing out all along, Latrell told us he was waiting on Souffs and our withdrawn offer was published because we knew Wayne was gonna well... be Wayne... and we had to make public our baseline for his market value. IMO we've snookered Wayne into using up every last penny without getting anybody to replace Burgess and GI for 2020.

Souths, arrogant? Now there is something that is hard to believe!

And I would apply that to a sizeable share of their supporters as well.
