  • Au revoir for Anthony Minichiello

THE Roosters could be saying "bon voyage" to Anthony Minichiello at the end of the year.

The Golden Boot winner still considering a switch to the French rugby union.

Expected to return from a leg injury next month, the former Kangaroos fullback is off-contract at the end of the year and is no certainty to stay in Australia.

We hear he has been offered a new deal at Bondi which could earn him up to $200,000.

However, he has told friends he wants to head overseas.

Minichiello was close to joining his good mate Mark Gasnier in France late last year, but stayed on only to suffer another injury at the start of the season.

His career has been plagued by visits to the doctor's surgery but there is no denying his talent.

200K is a lot to offer Mini particularly given his recent injury history.

Good luck to him should he take a big money offer overseas.

    Chook.

As much as I would love for Mini to stay as he has been one of my favs over the last 5 years, I have to agree that given his recent injury history he should only be signed to a relatively low sign on and heavilly weighted match fee.

If he does go I wish him all the best!

I just hope he playes out the rest of the season injury free when he gets back on the paddock. I will be going to the final home game for him to cheer him on. One of the best we have ever had.

The club was looking at an expanded role for Minichello, maybe thats changed.

I think we owe Mini his chance to earn some big bucks overseas.

Id love for him to come back, once retired and take up a media/community relations role with the club. he is truely a champion on and off the field.

                Why do we owe him?

We have been paying him good money for little return for four seasons now.

Forget Ryan Cross, Mini was the real Quintin...

In saying that, he has been a great player for the club, although the last three years have been a horror. I'd still like to see him with us next year, but this club has spent an alleged 1.2mil in cap over those three years.

If he signs for half of that, keep him. Six hungie over three years is still very good coin (yes I know he can earn a lot more than that OS).

I agree with Vasco on this issue. For four years now he has barely played and if he wants to go to France to play rugby FFS then I'm fine with that outcome. The Roosters don't owe him anything, he has been fully paid whilst sitting on the sidelines for most of seasons 06, 07, 08 and 09. Go Mini, go play rugby in France, get injured again and see how they like you sitting on the sidelines for your cash.

Mini was just on the today show and basically said he wants to repay the roosters for putting up with his run of injuries, so he's staying.

Bravo, good news. I just hope Mini's staying doesn't mean the loss of the promising Luke Towers.

Not that I wish it, but with Mini's run of injuries over the past few years I'd say to anyone in the lower grades to stick around, they will most likely get an opportunity to sub for him !
