  • Our Next Coach

Unfortunately Robbo won’t be with us forever.

Any other coach would be a downgrade. It’s not just his football brain but also his philosophies that he brings to the club and the great culture he creates.

I wonder if he is a career coach or how long he intends to coach for. A man of his talents and reputation could walk into any job in the admin, political or business world. I think he would make a great CEO for the NRL.

Is he replaceable? Who would you want?

I'm hoping this is a conversation we don't have to have for a while yet. It's not unusual for the best coaches to work for a couple of decades plus and Robbo's rhetoric is all about the Roosters, so hard to see him coaching another NRL club.

Don't know what his plans are but he's only 42. If he does leave sooner rather than later for some reason you'd figure he'll care enough about the club to have some succession plan in place. At the moment I think he's pretty much irreplaceable.

        Either Fitzy or the Cronk.
With the great SBW as forwards / mentor coach.

I vote Freddy - but I hope he's 70 by the time Robbo moves on.

By the time Trobbo retires, Wayne Bennet will be close to 100 and still coaching and with his dementia he wont remember his treacherous act to us in 2006 ...so he'll probably throw his hat into the ring !

Robbo's what... 42? I hope his form continues and there's no need to replace him any time soon. However, it'll happen eventually.

NFI who would replace him really! I think it would depend on the job that needs doing. Unfortunately all coaches are one year of bad luck away from either being sacked or losing interest. I think guys like Robbo and Bellamy legitimately invest in the future though, so their jobs are safer. Hate Bellamy and he was garbage as an NSW coach (which IMO is more of a pep talk role than actually coaching) but he still gets results with lesser rosters.

Skeletor operates more like a shonky builder or IT contractor. He comes in, talks up his expertise, everybody buys up the resources he's requested without question, the draft build/system looks alright on paper and then he buggers off to the next gig before the reality of his product has settled. This leave clubs with $$$ bill for a house that leaks and an IT system that's too slow but old Wayno (aka Teflon) has already moved onto his next $$$ contract.

I'm glad we have a career-minded coach rather than a monorail salesman.

Really can’t see Robbo leaving coaching or the Roosters any time soon. He absolutely loves both.
Let’s not worry about something that may not happen for many years. Let’s just concentrate on 2020. Starting with the WCC. Not fussed about the 9s because it’s a Micky Mouse competition. If we didn’t have the WCC coming up we would probably be more invested in the 9s because the winner does get a cool $1million.

I watched the 1974 GF yesterday...YouTube...Easts V Dogs ...to see Mark Harris in action, particularly.
About 15 minutes from the end the commentator said Dogs were winning the scrums, and the penalties were 14 -5 in favour of the Dogs.
I said to myself..."Nothing's changed in 45 years!"

                  ************************************************** **********************************************

I just hope that...if Trent has some "bad luck" with refereeing, and bad luck with injuries, weather, draws, players' desires etc etc etc...and we don't do so well for a while...our Club sticks by him and doesn't rush for the "sack" button.

I wish this thread could be deleted. Don’t want to go there. He loves it here and we just won back to back.

I think the only move for TR after coaching is to takeover as chairman after Uncle Nick decides he has had enough, which I pray will not be for another 20+years
