Don't know about surrounding himself with people who are smarter than him (Robbo's pretty smart) but there's not many coaches who would risk their own power base by employing an international league coach and, now, a recent international union coach.

There is more to coaching than the mere Xs and Os of coaching drills.
There is also the man management side of coaching. Players can grow in many ways - not just in terms of basic skills like passing and line running; but also as teammates and communicators, etc.
With the likes of Robbo, Cronk, Fitzy and King on staff I'm quite sure we have the basics of playing NRL covered. So maybe Cheika has been brought on board to aid in other areas.
I mean the bottom line is, Trust in Trent.
If he rates Cheika then that's good enough for me. He's already earned the respect and trust of a thousand lifetimes at this club.
He can also bring his mate Izzy to take part in opposed training....."Qui audet adipiscitur"

I hope we can develop a form of attack that nullifies the strip tactic AND gives it to teams regardles of whether they strip or not.
The strip is a hack. Mic Check 1-2 taught Izzy to do his 50m unsupported runs without getting the ball stolen during rucks/mauls.
IMO there must be some kinda tactic where you go in, spin your body backwards to prevent some grub from locking in the 3-man strip (which is now ignored in league) and then flicking them off ya coz they're going for the ball instead of a legit tackle. While doing so, you could also expose their double hand on the ball to the cameras so that the penalty can be called.
The strip is a hack. Smart coaching will make it a liability in 2020 IMO... be funny seeing Sticky all tomato faced going 'NOOOO NOOOO!!! TACKLE THE MAN!!! BACK TO BASICS.... NOBE OF THOSE STRIPS OKAY COZ THEY DON'T WORK!! WAAAAA MUMMY!!!! HOW DARE THEY BRUSH OFF MY PLAYERS!!! I INVENTED TE STRIP AND IT GOT ME TO A GF LAST SEASON!!! WHY AM I 14TH WITH THE SAME SQUAD AND TACTICS THIS YEAR?!?!?'

Robinson said he's enjoyed learning from Cheika.
"He is helping push myself and the assistant coaches to improve and challenging our ideas and helping push us again in 2020," Robinson told the Daily Telegraph.
"I have always valued his advice. That will continue. He will obviously go off into different things at different times but it will be good to have him around and challenging us.
"The man can coach. He has won a Super Rugby title, a Heineken Cup and coached in a World Cup final. He has a wealth of knowledge.
"Cheiks [Cheika] loves the footy environment. He is a rugby union coach, but he grew up in the eastern suburbs and he just loves footy, whether it’s union or league.
The Roosters open their 2020 NRL campaign against the Penrith Panthers on March 14.

Maybe Cheiks can show us how to stop Kikau from scoring tries.

As a couple have mentioned Cheika is no loser. He took an absolute crap NSW Super rugby team and environment and turned them into winners.
The only mistake he made was to take the Wallabies job, a basket case that he could not fix as best he wanted. Too many halfwits get to put in their 2 crntsThe Internet is a place for posting silly things
Try and be serious and you will look stupid
