Maybe the responders can see that to win the comp this year we needed the same team as last year, can't have that...and our only chance was to buy an experienced
player like Douehi as a winger/centre.

We needed Douehi to play right wing or left centre.
He's better than Hall, better than Iku, Smith is out for the season...but we couldn't guarantee him a first grade spot.
Not my idea of what should've been happening.
Tigers soon grabbed him.
If we're rebuilding for the future then that's fine.

Douehi had versatility, but if we couldn't guarantee him a first grade starting spot it would be because he isn't better than our existing options.

Gee these Wests Tigers mob are getting cocky all of a sudden, apart from beating uncle Nick with the deal, they are having a dig at the vermin saying that this deal will end up being more beneficial/better deal than the one they put on the table for Latrell!!

They only beat us because they offered a ridiculous deal and because their roster is so pathetically weak they could guarantee not just a fist grade spot but the position he wants.

Douehi would only have been a bandaid solution to our current problem, I am pleased we were not dumb enough to pay overs for someone we didn't really want. and that Souths are happy to let go, and even pay to get rid of him.

Agreed and at $600k a season he was hardly a cheap bandaid solution (lotsa senior players within our squad would be on less than that + he's no marquee signing).

Salary cap management is a bit like those Fantasy Footy Coach games (that I'm now completely jack of). You win if you load up on top-shelf players in the forwards and spine. Centres are a bit meh for consistency (i.e. they don't usually determine outcomes) and if you load up on slightly above average centres, it means that you have less $$$ for your forwards and spine.

It's boring but retaining JWH, SST, Cordner, Crichton and Radley (plus Tedesco, Keary and Friend) would trump all considerations in my book. If one of them left to make way for Dodo, we'd feel it more than if we had to move Morris over the left centre.

Upon reflection, I am okay that we didn't sign him either. Hopefully someone (at better value for money) that we don't yet know about might be waiting in the wings.
