  • We're not signing a left centre - what is our strongest backline?

News alert... sources within the cashed up power club have informed me that they are not in the market for a boom left centre for 2020.

It turns out they've already got enough backs including:
    - Hall
    - Morris
    - Manu
    - Tupou
    - Teddy
    - Ikuvalu
    - Smith (injured - likely season)
    - Tuponiua (actually a forward)
    - Maubs (solid utility)
    - Kepaoa (some dude on the pen said he's a mad **** so it must be true)
    - Verrills (183cm, fast, decent delivery and a solid tackler/reader)

So who's gonna be playing where?

My thoughts in order of likelihood are:
    - Morris to centre, Hall on the wing (that way we use the two of 'em).
-We use Maubs as he's a safe option without having to displace anybody (then if Morris gets injured, Hall slots in).
    - We experiment with Kepaoa with an eye to fast tracking his development
    - Tuponiua or Verrills get a run.

      1. Teddy
      2. Toups
      3.Morris
      4. Manu
      5. Hall

That's the best backline we've got - end of story - although i would have given Billy Smith a shot over Hall if he was fit.

To me, the 1-5 is not our biggest challenge. Our pack def isnt a problem. The problem this year is the halves

What I would be interested in seeing is where Verrills will fit in. He is a really shit hot talent but we've got a congested pack. To be honest, you have a look at our pack and its the best in the competition. How we convert that into points throught the halves is going to be our challenge this year. If Keary gets injured we are very skinny and inexperienced in the 6 & 7.

I expect Flanagan to start at 7 but i wonder how Verrils would go in the halves - 6. Verrills, & 7. Keary to be frank would be worth seeing. To me he looked like he had the fundamentals to make a go fo the no.6.

I'm not Robbo and he knows better than me, but i'm certain he has a plan to get the likes of Verrills or Lam some game times in the halves early in the season because as it stands, if Keary goes down then so does 2020.

        100% Flanagan will be starting.

I would leave Morris & Toups on the wing because they are wingers & I would start with Manu & Ikavalu but I think Robbo will go with Aubs in the centre.

I agree he will go with Aubo...that definitely keeps our defense intact. Even more so this year we will play very direct. Our pack is still the best, Teddy trailing up the middle, Keary always plays direct then plays short off him and keep it fairly simple for Flanagan until he settles

Aubs to Centre with Crichton getting more game time.
Making Steve Naughton look like Vince Mellars...

I think Aubbo will start at Centre for the WCC

                1.Teddy
                2.Tupou
                3.Aubo
                4.Manu
                5.Morris

This may change when Hall is fit, depends on how well the combo goes - when is he scheduled to return to full training? Is he ahead of schedule?

I'm not a massive fan of aubs at centre th, our defence will be rock solid, but attack wise it is a bit meh .

Verills? Just because Joey moonlights as a hooker doesn’t mean a specialist hooker can play centre. Next time you meet with Trent tell him this is a ridiculous idea and 13 thinks he’s got rocks in his head.

Morris and Topps will be on the left. Hall and Manu on the right. Morris is like Tommy T. Put him anywhere and he won’t let you down. If injury to any of these then Iku gets a run. Only then will Aubo get a run. The young bloke some of you talk about is as much chance of getting a run as Joey is as playing 9.

Very very average footballers play for your pub team or bench for the Mudgee Marsupials.
