We are just getting a little momentum, a small glimpse of what we are able to do if we play as a team and he is out on the piss. Who was he out with? Some of the players?

A bloke gets out on the wrong floor of a hotel drunk. Nothing wrong with that but what the hell is that bloke doing walking around the corridors in a pair of shorts?

I have nothing against the bloke getting tanked. I do it all the time but the timing is extremely poor.
Hes the coach John. It was thur night/Fri morn, we are playing Sat night.

Honestly when we were winning games 00-04 1/2 the team would get on it the day before games and still play the night after and show zero effects. Ive heard stories of our Origin players from that era after a full night on it, no sleep, return straight from the airport to Easts training and bust beep tests still pissed basically. I even remember Roy Masters saying he asked a young Terry Lamb what he does on a saturday arvo and hed say have 25+ vodka and oranges at the local then play on a sunday.

Some people can just handle. I dont believe its that uncommon.

Id guess hed have been drinking with players.

I agree the shorts bit is a bit strange.

When was the last time that a coach was busted for something like this?

The guy is not setting a good example. I don't give a toss if players used to do it. He is the guy that would be telling his blokes to be careful of getting to pissed as the media can crucify you. He fines himself $10,000? That is bloody bizarre.

This could be the get out clause the organisation might be looking for.

If we were at the other end of the table I guess this would not be as critical. I don't care what kind of bad light this gives to the NRL as a whole, I care about the head coach of the team I support that is coming last, to guide his blokes a little bit more responsibly.

I guess its if you see this as a big deal mate, I dont personally.

I have seen coaches do some dumb things. pRicky last year attacking that reff in front of alot of people, Browneye slapping his captain on national TV, Elliott losing the plot at more than one press conference, Waynekerr dodging media after losing that test series, Taylor (although as a player) throwing piss at the cricket and getting ejected, Langmack allowing Hoppa to date rape players there were even many rumours of Murray having a problem with indigenous players at NQ.

I have more issues with Freddys gameplans and selections personally. I really dont give a shit if hes drunk 24/7 as long as the team performs. I dont see what hes done here as anything major or any reason for how weve been performing.

Yes, yes and yes. We are on a 6? game streak (I've lost count) and the most obviously problem we've had on and off the field is lack of discipline. So then Freddy decides to get poleaxed on a trip to Townsville for a must win game?

There is not an Easts fan who could say that Freddy's job is safe and here he is adding fuel to the fire. As an Easts fan I am finding it harder and harder to defend these blokes.

As a private citizen get as drunk as you want and it's all good. As the coach of the team coming last, MY TEAM, I expect him to show more discipline.

                    Man up for farks sake!!

I am not impressed in many ways.
Its just such a stupid thing for Fittler to do as a coach of a team that is not doing a good job.
The 2 main things that don't impress me the most are that as a person in a highly paid job with alot of responsibilty, there are standards that must be set and met. This is quite the opposite.
And athough while I think its not appropriate it is petty stuff as far as the real world is concerned, so why the hell do we keep hearing this sort of crap.

Makes me think the 2 stupidest type of people in the world are footballers and journalists
The Internet is a place for posting silly things
Try and be serious and you will look stupid

Ricky was sacked after all.. It is a major embarrassment for the club, the players, let alone the fans.. Worst of all is the sponsors. Samsung addressed the club earlier this season after the Jake Friend and Anthony Cherrington incidents about player behaviour and now the coach does this.. If they decide to take their 1.5m per season elsewhere then don't expect a rush of sponsors wanting to get on board the team coming last in the middle of a financial crisis.

With position comes responsibility.. As coach (and a very highly paid one at that) it comes with the role to behave professionally, particularly when with the team.. The coach has responsibilities that go beyond game plans (actually I am not aware if we have those anyway) he is also pretty much the face of the club, he has to set an example for the players and all those who are a part of the club..

The fine is a cop out.. He will donate to charity.. All tax deductible of course.. If the club didn't have the balls to sack him (anyone else would have been long gone with our record anyway) it should have been at least a
$50K fine donated to Easts Juniors.. This would not be an allowable tax deduction and could be put back in to helping the junior clubs at the grass roots.
