          Now that, I agree with.

On the flip winning a trial by a big margin like that is not that helpful going into the season. O'Brien now has to ground them for Round 1, and check any false bravado.

That was always going to be the score...it looks terrible in the paper today.
            Ikuvalu was injured.
The teams were a total mismatch...most of these young players of ours are nowhere near first standard yet..surely that would've been obvious before the game was scheduled and they were sent out to face first grade Knights team..
Asu Kepaoa's ability to catch the high ball could've been established at training .

Coach getting all upset on the sideline about the refereeing.
He's wasting his time trying to talk sense to referees.
The best thing to do with them is to ignore them, don't talk with them, don't interact with them...just laugh in the press conferences.
            "9-3 penalty count, LOL"
            "You saw the game. LOL"

            • Ouch.

Expected a loss but 58-0 is a good old fashioned touch-up.

Looking for some perspective, the Bears CC game (which was basically some Flegg guys and Ron Massey Cup players ) managed a draw. They actually dominated the game and made very few errors. Knights were poor esp ball handling.

So...if the real Bears team had played in their right grade I think we see a dominant win which bodes well heading in to their season. And of course our real Firsts team would have been slightly more competitive as well.

To paraphrase Robbos comments.....The boys first 20 mins was good in matching motors but as the game wore on they started losing the battle with kick pressure, conceding penalties (hmm), catching kicks, reading play etc. Those little areas are the difference between firsts and seconds. The guys attitude however was good for 80 minutes.

Agree with R6 that Egan Butcher looks the goods. Plenty of strapping still but if he stays injury free he will be playing firsts with his bro next year. Farmer Silly was strong in the middle, as good as I've seen him. Maxy Bailey looks a shadow of last year, not sure if playing wounded. Tom Freebairn has on the other hand progressed from last year and has some skill to his repertoire both with the ball and as a hole runner.

The attacking threats looked to come from Lam and Baker, both sharp. Baker played mostly fullback not Kepaoa. Tuipolotu and Kepaoa didn't have much fun out there including handling errors...Im not sacking them yet, it's a long season.

Hutch is just trundling along. I hope Lam gets the nod ahead of him this year if/when needed.

Robbo was on the sideline all game with a very hands on role miked up. Talking to players coming on and off. Was he talking to JT upstairs? Don't know. Strange.

You learn more from trial losses than wins, so maybe we learned a shedload.

              • Was basically boys vs men in regards to age and experience. Although the scoreboard wasn't flattering, it was expected to be lopsided. In saying that, 58 nil doesn't look good.

For me, Butcher Jr and Fpn Jr stood out. Baker and Moretti looked OK as well. Was a little disappointed in Bailey. Hutch is a not a half, more built like a Wade Graham type with zero tackling skills. Lam should join his old man in the UK.

Overall it showed the massive gap between juniors with potential and first grade standard.

Yes Moretti showed some drive and power.

                  • It was disappointing to watch, sure, but I believe that the boys will take something positive out of the match. It was a trial for goodness sake! Not the end of the world by any means. We did not lose anything that matters, and the players now see first hand what it takes to get to first grade standard. I am sure Robbo, Kingy, Taylor and the other coaching staff/officials will provide constructive feedback and it will be all good. Not sure about Round 1 yet (perhaps like last year), but I would be far from concerned at this very early stage of the pre season. There were certainly some positives to come out of the night, most of which have already been highlighted.

Some people believe supporting the Roosters
is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed
with that attitude. I can assure you it is
much, much more important than that.

                    • On the 'pick your line up for round 1' poll/article (on the Rooster's website) it doesn't list Ryan Hall as an option for the wing ...is this just an oversight or is this a confirmation that he is still unavailable

No way I would've played any of them anyway...look what's happened to other teams...decimated by injuries to key players in the 9s and trials. Season proper hasn't even started.
Players are getting serious injuries at training, that should not be happening either.

$9.5m? cap teams are spending on players, only to see much of that money wasted.
Trials are a waste of time if you ask me. Players could be assessed at training.
Teams should have private trials, open trials like they used to have, free admission, put an ad in the paper.
Lam is being spoken of here as being 'no good'. I think he played quite well at 6...one movement I saw was good, except the centre dropped the ball and killed it stone dead.
Lam should be given a chance to show what he can or can't do in a game where he's passing the ball to BMoz, JMoz or some other proper FG centre.
                        Roosters 0 Knights 58.
Ridiculous game, how could any Roosters player shine in that debacle.

Maybe the bloke who framed the poll just combined the names from the WCC game and from the trial v knights. nrl.com still saying he'll be ready last week.
