As long as the Canterbury players aren’t school teachers.

If the nrl goes back to players working day playing weekends we won’t have much talent left in Australia. They will filter out between rugby, afl and nfl

Not rugby. They are in worse shape than league.

https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sp...ce7c8a2cc51b30 Matty Johns: Tribal wars and self-interest threaten NRL’s existence

If the NRL was a country it would be Afghanistan – a mass of 17 warring tribes that includes the governing body, and their self-interest puts us all at risk, writes MATTY JOHNS.
The NRL’s goal is for all 16 clubs to survive.
For that to happen, as a game we’ll need to change old habits dramatically and learn to co-operate with each other.

I explain to people who aren’t familiar with the landscape of rugby league that if the NRL was a country it would be Afghanistan, in that we are a mass of warring tribes.
Sixteen clubs which in the past have been unwilling to row in the same direction.

But if we are talking about the 16 clubs being separate tribes fighting out of self-interest, the 17th tribe is the NRL administration itself.
For a long time the clubs have had wavering faith and trust in the people running the game.
Some of that is warranted, some of it unfair, but none the less there’s a distinct divide.

The power and trust to wield a big stick is vital in V’landys leadership.

Rugby league, you see, operates best in a dictatorship.

If you ask the clubs a question, you’re likely to get 16 different responses.
So best to tell them what to do. To be able to do that you need trust and guts.

Like countries, the 16 NRL clubs are far from equal in terms of resources.
Some are geographically blessed, others have strong connections to the big end of town, while yes I know, some clubs are just better run.

But if we are serious about all 16 clubs surviving, one of the first things which needs to be addressed is the current equal funding model.

Getting all clubs to agree to change will be typically challenging.

              #####

If the Roosters were to agree to getting less funding from the NRL than other clubs, that would not be a wise decision.
I read out a few lines of this to the little lady.

Peter V'Landys is the best person to fix League like he fixed Racing. It went from the domain of 'colourful racing identities' and extraordinarily piss poor dope testing to the premier sport in the country under V'Landys. I predict that at least two clubs if not four will fold under this new paradigm and the Storm may well be one of them. Especially if Cameron Smith retires if there's no football this year.

At the end of the day, as long as we survive, I won't lose too much sleep over any of the other clubs. At the risk of being controversial, I think the Rabble will stick around. We have to have someone to hate! It wouldn't be the same without them.
                    MRR or Rabid

Some people believe supporting the Roosters
is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed
with that attitude. I can assure you it is
much, much more important than that.

don't kid yourself about racing, it is not a sport. V'Landys has done a good job to a certain extent but its still just a game for mugs and criminals and if you keep doing the right thing then you will never get busted.

The problem with RL isn't 17 different tribes its the pedestal its on. Its so far away from its roots and fans its a joke.knock that down bring everyone down to earth. Have the game exist in a market that is real, not the artificial one its in now. The top players should be on no more than $250-$300K Not because they are not wonderful athletes but because the market of the NRL is only big enough to support that sort of money.

Well said (although not sure about the Storm disappearing unfortunately).

Racing is our premier sport and has always been an integral part of our Aussie DNA, notwithstanding rogue elements that exist in all parts of society but don't get the same ignorant stereotyping.

I do think Vlandys is the man of the hour.

3 game grand finals are being considered by the NRL...
as well as teams that finish 7th and 8th having to play teams 9 and 10 for a spot in the top 8.

Being on zero points now, and with not the same team as last season, no way the Roosters should vote yes to that 7 8 9 10 idea.
Of course if the NRL finishes up a dictatorship we won't get a vote/say in it.
We should finish higher on the ladder than 7 or 8...but if we do finish 7 or 8 we should not have to play 9 or 10 to keep that top 8 spot.
Sounds like "more games for more revenue".

Unless he starts playing favourites with funding money to the clubs.
He'll likely be "the man of last week" then.
