Still though, it seems to me that we no longer are able to attract top players to Bondi.

Based on what? Since Smiths arrival he's made it quite clear that retention not recruitment would be his main goal and that any recruitment would be fringe first graders who they felt were undervalued by the market.

So with Smith the Roosters are playing Moneyball!?

Great book, good movie. but the As won a lot of regular season games and no pennants!

Awesome book, yet to see the movie though. Love Michael Lewis's work.

The A's always looked for undervalued youngsters, we seem to recruit the most highly valued youngsters... just a touch different

              Similarities in senior recruitment though...

Yes but it still doesn't stop player managers discretely or covertley letting the media know that the Roosters are interested in his player in order to drive up his market price !

I think Al Pacino can answer a lot better than I can.

Forgive the almost unforgivable addition of Keanu Reeves to this. Someone thought he could act.

FWIW I spoke to a Parra fan today and he's pretty that we signed Mortimer cheaply. Most of my mates are Raiders fans, and the general vibe amongst them is that he's a big, potentially game changing signing.

We have lots of big name players who other teams would love... SKD has a LOT of respect, JWH was a big name at the time... that new gun kiwi.

Todd Carney FFS... he farked us over, but he'd still be here if we didn't tell him to fark off.

Yeah I think we sign some pretty good players. We're just not dumb enough to be signing more big willies at this moment in time...

FWIW I think the salary cap is partly there to encourage teams to develop players. Either way, most truly awesome players (e.g. Lockyer) don't seem to move about much because they are happy where they are, and have nothing to gain by changing clubs.

                            Nice disclaimer from Smith.

He can't actually lure any top class players.
