  • AFL Shutdown - why are the NRL last?

As lockdown is about to begin in NSW it’s disappointing to me that the NRL almost has to be forced unwillingly to do what’s in the best interests of the nation. It’s not an essential service.

Its not about $$$$ but lives. I really wish the NRL didn’t wait to be the last because we are much better than that. Putting themselves first and setting a bad example for the nation which has been told to avoid close contact undermines the fight against the corona virus.

No wonder people don’t take the message seriously when they see NRL players tackling each other.

Its just disappointing that the NRL is the last to put Australia first and the last to set an example.

If the NRL players are in lock down then why would they not play?
    What is your concern?
Just keep playing until some test positive then it all stops.

They’re setting a bad example of avoiding close contact. While everyone is told to avoid close contact why are NRL players exempt?

If they are relocating to Gladstone the time for that is right now.

The AFL has postponed their season because they won’t be able to travel to certain states and if they do, will need to self isolate for 14 days. Impossible to run a comp like that. It’s not a safety issue but a logistical one.

fly them to gladstone near a foot ball ground, gym, with enough sleep capacity for 500 odd people . I guess teams get rostered training sessions. food and drink gets delivered. all players stay away from general population. sounds easy but don't think it would be.

Gotta keep playing until we get a win, can’t go down in history having another winless season on our books.

We are constantly told that the NRL is constantly in discussions with experts in the field of epidemics and have been given the all clear to go ahead with certain precautions in place.

Can we please have transparency on the identity of these experts who are advising the NRL. It seems they have a difference of opinion/advice than their peers all around the world. Maybe its Peter V'Laka's GP?

                  Why do "we" need this?

The states are getting involved because the Prime Minister is busy speaking in tongues today.

                        It's simple.

If the the season is postponed for as little as 3 months, the NRL as we know it is over.

At the very least, the Sharks, Wests, Titans and Warriors will probably fold. If the season gets cancelled, more will follow.

The NRL had a massive 'rainy day' account up until 2016 which could have covered a season's total loss of revenue. Dave Smith pissed it all away under the former administration.
The NRL has been run by amateurs for years.

V'Landys is a smart operator and possibly the best Chairman the game has had since we moved to the ARL Commission structure.
But he has basically been blindsided with a stinking turd in his lap and there isn't a great deal he can do now.

AFL is run by intelligent people. NRL is not. It’s that simple. No surprise AFL is leading RL yet again.

lol @ you thinking the AFL did this because they cared about their players or the community or they are some morally superior organisation. They did this because SA and WA closed their borders, if that had not happened that stupid sport would be playing this week simpleton.

                            Chook.
