Chook.
If his pass on saturday night had of taken a different bounce and sisa got to the ball first, this thread would not have existed and pearce would have been hailed as the second coming for winning the game with his break and pass.

Also Pearce was under pressure from a number of Cowboys players. 4 I think.
If this passage of play had of happened in the first 20 minutes, there would not be this much debate. Some things stick and some don't. When they do, the player shows wisdom, skill and the ability to handle pressure. it is then we love the guy...when it does not come off..well.
There is a bit of luck in footy is well....

If we're looking at that play and thinking that was a brilliant piece of play, up until the pass, well that's a perfect summation of how our season has gone. In saying that, Pearce did have a solid game, but a creative genius he is not. He is a cooper cronk, not a jonathon thurston. Unfortunately we simply don't have the players around him to execute on good direction, nor do we have the pack to lay the platform.

That's not to say he didn't show some toe to make it up the field as far as he did, but it could have been any player in the backline who ran onto the ball, Pearce was just there in the line.

I am not calling pearce the saviour, or the next alfie, he has alot to learn, but he has shown alot of talent when he was able to, like chook said we will see more of what pearce can do with out Anasta there.
I have said it before that freddy sets his game to attack through anasta more often than not (about 70 something % of our tries have come through anastas side of the field). With anasta gone, we will see Pearce in the playmaker role. We will see what he is capable of.

If Pearce did these things regularly, I'd agree, but it's not in his game, and there is nothing wrong with that. You need players like Pearce to provide the structure and direct a side, he just doesn't have the players around him to create opportunities, like Cronk does at Melbourne.
Pearce is averaging around 30m per game in runs this season. The guys who truly create opportunities and taunt the line average at least 60m. I know this statement won't go down well, but Pearce is very similar to Finch, not in skillset, but the way he plays, talks it up, directs the forwards, wants to get involved in defense but when it comes down to delivering a play at crunch time when a game is in the balance, it's just not there. That is by no means a criticism of his game, but I think people are expecting something to develop that has never been there at any level, and never really develops after this point. It's either there or it isn't, as your career progresses you simply hone it. Once Carney arrives, the whole ball game will change, and we'll have a balanced halves combination. But Anasta and Pearce as a combination was never going to work over the long term, both of them simply don't have the attacking nous that can take the pressure off each other.

I think we can agree to say that the spot light will be on him for the next 10 weeks.
