  • Can the NRL achieve a lift off with the Apollo Project on July 1st?

You can never bag anyone for having a go and thats exactly what Peter V'landy is doing. As much as i'm missing watching Ruga-b-league part of me thinks we are all facing massive challenges and perhaps getting the competition up and running in 2020 may be using up a lot of resources to achieve what? Sorry to the players who are going to miss out on being paid all their wages for this year but this is what we are all facing.

I read the below report and thought what farking planet are they on? Do they know the seriousness of what the world is facing & think we in Australia are going to get the all clear? They had to hire an " Infectious disease guru"....really?? Was it because the pandemic expert led them astray? Are they going to keep hiring experts until they find one that gives them the green light?

Anyhow i don't claim to be the "suppository" ( thanks Tony Abbott) of all wisdom......so id be interested to see if anyone thinks the Apollo Project is achievable, viable & totally necessary.

LEAGUE ADDS NEW EXPERT IN HOPE OF SEASON RESUMPTION

The NRL’s aim of rebooting the 2020 season has gone up a notch with the Sydney Morning Herald reporting the game has hired an infectious disease expert to consult on all COVID-19 matters.

The Herald suggests that certain people within League Central felt the game was rushed into suspending the season, and could have held out and played on.

Now NRL bosses have sought the advice of an infectious disease guru, to go alongside a pandemic expert, as they hope to resume the competition as early as June.

ARL Commission boss Peter V’landys halted the playing of the 2020 season before Round 3 on the advice of the pandemic expert.

None of us has a crystal ball so we don't really know what we're doing. Credit to the NRL for at least trying.

But I reckon there's a case to call the normal comp off and replace it with a one off special comp. Call it the Australia Cup. 16 teams divided into groups of 4 where each teams plays each other once and then you work out some way to eventually find a winner. Two games a weekend, Friday night and Sunday afternoon and you're flexible about who plays when, depending on infections etc. Maybe play each game for 60 mins to counter lack of match fitness and prevent injuries. Other things would be negotiable.

Sport's important to Aussies and if we can have a couple of games each weekend it will lift spirits (and maybe provide more revenue than a cancelled more ambitious comp would).

They are planning to have the comp back in some form by July. There's the Tangalooma resort option and also a western Sydney based one.

Good on them. The game and stir crazy fans definitely need something. I've said from day dot that we don't want to make the cure worse than the disease.

Provided it can be done safely and responsibly, I can't see why not.

I think people will realise that at some point we need to get back on with life and the restrictions need some shelf life or at least some gradual easing so less people go broke.

I'm with you Jack, I know covid is very serious and am taking it seriously. but life still has to be lived, I'm still working ( for now ) and am thankful for that. the Nrl has to at least try and pvl is a trier , I want footy back , hell I'll watch a broncs vs storm game even . they might not get it off the ground, but I'd prefer a trier in charge then a guy who just says nah, it's all to hard ...

Im all for the welfare of everyone, not just players and I can see why some dont want it back until this shyt storm passes but as others have said, it will be a spirit lifter and right now, thats what many people need.

My wife hates that fact that I watch every game during the season but even she said she can see why the need would be there for it to come back sooner rather than later.

I just hope its return is not simply financial as you cannot put dollars above health and safety. You can always get money back but you cant replace a life.

I reckon plenty of people in Canberra would have been so looking forward to this season because they were a real big chance of winning the comp this year.

yep. There was plenty to look forward to down this way Mickey and plenty of disappointment at how things have turned out but with hope the NRL will gets up and running again, there’s renewed hope down here for some success.

Imo, if the season ends up being an extremely short one, we could see the traditionally fast starters win the comp with the stayers who get stronger at the back end being left behind.

Our two first up losses could be very costly.

We needed to explode out of the blocks...we did our best though with no Latrell, no Cronk, no Cordner, BMoz playing out of position, Panthers home game, and our home game at Leichhardt [which very much resembles Brookvale oval.]
Kikau struck again...and if Keary had put the ball down as soon as he got over the line we would've beaten Manly.

                          There's some hope

JMoz is here, Cordner will be back, we'll have a better team than the first two rounds.

Is he on our books? Haven't seen an announcement...

Presumably Duges, Moylan, Ramien and Xerri are good to go so it seems stupid in context that they cared so much about it.

Billy Smith's recovery must be coming along too though? 6-12 months (possibly)... could be a blessing in disguise that a stack of players get time to get better.
