    Is it too early to say this could be a new Freddy-like signing?

      Hard to get excited about anything to do with 2013 from this far behind but I don't think we could have signed a better available 5/8. Management have taken all the right retention/recruitment options in recent times IMO.

        YES - Freddy was a once in a generation player. Maloney is simply a good signing.

          Todd Carney, the guy who single handedly ruined ruined our 2011 season with his continuous bad behavior and useless attitude?
          I love(d) the guy, he almost won us the comp in 2010, but that time is over, he proved he can't keep up more than 1 year of brilliance, he had it all and threw it all away, not the sort of player I would want in my team.
          Maloney>>>>Carney, it isn't 2010 anymore.
          I agree.

          Carney is massively overrated.

          Maloney gives us more than Carney without the disciplinary issues and team disharmony.

                  The two things I really like about this signing are;

                  1) He's a family man
                  2) Most halves hit their prime in the mid to late twenties, he'll be 26 when he arrives at our club whilst Pearce will be 23 and on the road to his.

                  He's no Benji Marshall, but I feel he's a really good signing for us and exactly the kind of guy we should be targeting instead of big names with baggage. Kudos to whoever made the move at the club.

                      Maloney misses alot of tackles. That said I prefer attack from our halves.. but just sayin.

                          He is certainly an improvement on Trewhella.

                                correct weight. We are buying a player with a good head on his shoulders who has a good attitude and is coming into his prime. He is top 5 5/8s in the comp easily with the only players definitely ahead of him being carney, marshall and foran. That said, i think he offers plenty particularly in the goal kicking department. I also think that the organisational pressure he will take off pearce will allow pearce to take his game to the next level. Pearce will now be able to pick and choose his moments better which most of you have listed as a motive for wanting to move pearce to 6. however with maloney at 6, you have 2 guys both with strong all-round games who once they get a combination and understanding of each others games will really feed off each other. The fact that maloney isnt a marshall or carney x-factor type i dont think is as big a deal as I initially thought it would be. Pearce and Maloney will create stacks of opportunities for our outside men and i think its more about giving them all quick early ball above all else.

                                Overall a good signing although despite not knowing exactly what he has been signed for, I get the feeling that it would be overs. That said, he is the best player we could possibly realistically get so you have to be happy with that.
