I think people have missed the real result in all this....$ouff$ have missed out on someone they played hard to get, and not hard in the way to just to bump the price up, played hard in the sense they REALLY wanted Maloney !!!

I also think that the organisational pressure he will take off pearce will allow pearce to take his game to the next level. Pearce will now be able to pick and choose his moments better which most of you have listed as a motive for wanting to move pearce to 6. however with maloney at 6, you have 2 guys both with strong all-round games who once they get a combination and understanding of each others games will really feed off each other. The fact that maloney isnt a marshall or carney x-factor type i dont think is as big a deal as I initially thought it would be. Pearce and Maloney will create stacks of opportunities for our outside men and i think its more about giving them all quick early ball above all else.

Overall a good signing although despite not knowing exactly what he has been signed for, I get the feeling that it would be overs. That said, he is the best player we could possibly realistically get so you have to be happy with that.

Great post roz! That last sentence you said is spot on, Johnson did not want to leave NZ, Foran will either want to stick with manly or follow Dez to the dogs and just about all other options are signed up beyond 2013.
The year 2013 marks the beginning of the Roosters next 'decade of excellence', and it will prove to be more successful than the last!

      Here's looking at you, kid.

Maguire was support staff during Maloney's short stint in Melbourne.

I never made the link between maguire and Melbourne and maloney

            that makes sense

i rate the fact that maloney learnt his trade at melbourne and then emerged at NZ and now is ready to excel for us in 13 says a lot about a guy that he is prepared to do his hard yards

You over rate Foran...he aint that great. I watched him closely in both teh GF and teh 4 nats. He was solid in the GF nothing more...he was non-existant in the internationals. He has one good game against us when we played like shit and you all thik Foran is fantastic. he is average at best. Maloney by miles over that Manly gimp.

Average at best. You are kidding yourself.

                    • The way I see the halves there aren't many great ones out there you have a few elite ones like Thurston, Cronk and Marshall. Then you have the rest, in Maloney we have one of the best of the rest. He is no star but still a decent player.

I agree with Melon on Foran. If you ask me what his strength is I'd say he is tough. At Manly he plays entirely on the left side of the field and throws the same pass, much like Boyd. As I said he is a tough kid but I don't think there is much craft in what he does.

I totally agree with Melon on this one,Foran is an overrated gimp and i would take Maloney over him any day of the week.
Foran was non existent in the internationals,i forgot he was even playing!
A couple of good hits and solid runs doesnt make a gun 5/8th,he needs alot more to his game than just being tough!

I reckon foran has a tonne more craft than maloney who looks purely to be a runner. Foran can set up his outside players very well. I would put foran up there as the best young half/fight eight coming through. But I like maloney's signing and agree that he is up there amongst the best of the rest outside the elite club.

                              Agreed.

I don't know of many that are putting Foran in the absolute top echelon just yet, but to say he is "average at best" IMO is simply incorrect.

                              • he has not shown anything in teh playmking stakes to rate him higher than Average First Grader. he's no Laurie Daley, he's no Brad fittler, he's no Lockyear he's no Benji, he's not even as good as Campese. He definitely hasnt shown anythig as close or as good as a sober Carney.

He is solid behind a good forward pack - like anasta was, like Pearce is, like the Pom at Melbourne. Average.
