Will be interesting to see what comes of the gun offences. Potentially very heavy penalties for discharging a firearm with out a licence, use of a firearm in a manner other than that listed as its intended purpose on the owners license, possession of unsecured firearms, possession and purchase of unregistered firearms.

Given the intentional and unintentional devastation that firearms cause, I would have thought that having players plastered all over the media illegally using firearms and being subsequently charged by the Police was not a great look for the NRL. Apparently its not as serious as having a few too many grogs and pretending to hump a dog or urinate in your own mouth.

Barring the gun issues, the players selfish acts put the recommencement of the season in jeopardy. Clearly, they think they are above the law and more important than the rest of us. Remember, this is Addo Carr's third breach of social-distancing laws and Mitchell followed up his apology with a re-post of his group next to a crowd at a Sydney beach, with a caption that suggested racism at play (to make sense of this, I gather that there were no people of colour allowed on the beaches).

They and the NRL are in a privileged position of returning to work sooner than many others in the community and, many people are asking why. V'landys had the opportunity to say to the fans and the greater community that we respect and understand the sacrifices you are making and these players who have belittled those sacrifices, and flouted their privilege are being punished accordingly. I was happy with the financial penalty but thought 8-10 weeks suspension to be served in full was appropriate.

Also, plenty of talk from players overnight that these breaches are really no big deal because "everyone is doing it". Everyone is not doing it! I'm no Saint, I have many, many faults but shouldn't we be measuring ourselves, our expectations and standards on the overwhelming majority of good people who are doing the right thing, and understand why they're doing it.

      Sorry for the rant.

Don't apologise 75 as your post was written intelligently and therefore not a rant in my opinion.

          And this...….,

          NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian states
"We always base any decision on health advice and on the ability of an organisation to stick to that health advice so I think it does jeopardise, what's happened, because the season hasn't even started," Berejiklian continues.

"Ordinarily people might turn a blind eye here and there but not when it's life and death. We are in a pandemic. It's life and death. To compromise someone else's safety, that's inexcusable."

"The word disappointing doesn't really cut it, does it?

"Everybody's trying so hard to stick to the rules, everybody's trying so hard to do the right thing and then to have people behave in that way is beyond belief.

"There are a number of question marks and the organisation doesn't do itself any service by having players acting that way."

          And this.......,

NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller said the community response to the incidents was appropriate. Police will allege Mitchell, whose three weapons have been seized and his gun licence cancelled, gave a firearm to somebody not authorised to use it.

"We took swift action in terms of the most serious breaches of the law which were firearms breaches and I think that's important from the community confidence perspective," he said.

"How they're judged by the community has probably been harshly and I think that's appropriate. As the Premier said, everyone's making sacrifices at the moment and I think people have the right to be disappointed."

Seemss like the NRL are the only ones not judging these incidents with the harshness the deserve.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian believes the actions of Latrell Mitchell, Josh Addo-Carr and Nathan Cleary have cast doubt on a May 28 resumption of the season.

IMO Gladys and co need to tread lightly when 'threatening' to not allow the NRL to resume because of this.
The players were not yet back under the control of their clubs, most of which are closed down and have no idea where their contracted players are or what they're doing.
She should reset the sinners clock and start from next Monday with the monitoring.
            or stand condemned.

She needs to remember that she only just fell over the line at the election.
Many many people are depending on the NRL resuming ...for their mental health, job, and an income,.

Wrong , the four of them should face some sort of ban , not because it's Lattrel or any other player , they knew the rules and there should be no excuses, they put the comp and people's lively hoods in jeopardy , that is not acceptable

                  Right.
The Premier, Prime Minister, and national cabinet or whatever it's called, should not stop the NRL season from beginning on May 28 over these incidents.
Judgement of the the NRL should only start from Tuesday when training begins and clubs have control of the players.

This sends a clear and loud message to the NRL players.....if your caught breaching the social distancing laws then expect a 1 match ban and a fine. .....hardly a deterrent. If it happens again the leniency of this ruling will come back and bite Vlandys hard

For as much as Vlandy's has pushed hard to get NRL back on he's really looking like a joke from these breaches of social distancing, a soft fine and 1 match ban for potentially putting other people's lives at risk is soft. And you wonder why the Warriors haven't been approved to stay in the country and there's now teasing that the season may not come back.

Yes, Vlandy's has done well, don't get me wrong, it's just I disagree with the punishment handed out to Latrell, Fox and Cleary for breaching social distancing.

They copped well above anything the normal member of the public would have gotten, if they breach when the rules of the nrl are put in place, then they deserve suspensions and higher fines, but they broke no NRL rule that I was aware of, should they have known better? Undoubtedly.

Fair point, maybe it's just me reading about ppl like Gus Gould and the rest of the media wanting bigger punishments.

How would the nrl and each salaried player and employee feel towards those concerned if the start was cancelled or postponed as a result? Would the penalty be harsher then?
