The model the NRL would work off would be the NBA with its league pass. The NRL already has a streaming service for outside Aus and NZ via https://www.watchnrl.com/

see below for what prices they offer for Australia What do the premium NBA League Pass options cost?

    • League Pass: $39.99 per month or $299.99 per year for all 1,200+ NBA regular season games, NBA Playoffs, Finals and All-Star Weekend.
    • Team Choice: $19.99 per month or $169.99 per year for every game played by yourfavourite team all season.
    • Game Choice: $14.99 per month or $109.99 per year for access to 8 games per month.
NBA League Pass gives basketball fans live games on a range of devices but what content can you access for free and is there a trial available?
    ..it’ll be interesting to see

I know a guy 'company' who installs a box as a one off fee for about $290...then each year or two if you want the box updated extra , new channels apps he charges about $50. This box gives you access to not only Fox but a heap of other channels ,networks, apps etc. It is amazing and a 10th of the cost of other companies. If anyone is interested and you are in Sydney, inbox me and I will chase up his number again. Had mine for about 3 years without issue.

        Yes they did.

In normal times the cheapest Telstra bundle I can find is about $80pm for home phone, unlimited internet, and Foxtel added on, Foxtel $49pm + $25pm for sport HD.

What do you reckon the figures would be like for direct subscription to the NRLs service directly.... could it cover costs and provide profit for reinvestment?
                Massage these figures..
1 mill subscribers for say 9 months of year.. (people will drop in and out at start and end of season) paying $25 a month .. that’s $225,000,000 for the year only from subscribers.
Add in other dollars above this (gambling, sponsors, advertising etc) no idea what these would look like! Say $20 mil (no idea)

They give the cap value to the clubs ... est $10mil or $160mil per year which leaves $85mil for the following...
Production costs of $50k per game or est $10 mil a year..
Admin of game....$20 mill (high estimate)
                Advertising/marketing expenses $
                Grass roots...$
                Travel expenses...$

I think some figures are conservative but curious as to how the books would look!!!

The only issue is that you want a major News Paper backing you especially News Corp why have such a monopoly in many markets! Getting them off side will be a difficult road to manage! (Cue Bondi.Boi)

Would it be just the current season? It would be great if it had a lot of archive matches, maybe have a Cronk + Sterlo show too

Govt man says top sport must be shown on free to air tv.
                    You know "help the 'battlers".
Also, govt man is not liking monopolies.

Not a matter of not getting people offside as much as being wise.
NRL is a premium product, millions watch it on tv, read about it.
Wisdom dictates that if say Ch9 and Fox are willing to pay plenty for the tv rights, the NRL negotiates with them and has them pay that guaranteed money.
It can also then have its streaming service for fans who don't have Foxtel. Watchable anywhere on phones, other.devices.
LOOK at all that money rolling in.
The trick is to spend it wisely and save some.

For me, personally, Foxtel at $84 per month is a no brainer (whilever I can afford it) .

8 games of footy live, horse racing on tap, country music channel, comedy classics, Sky news etc.

it just depends on what you like I guess.

I pay $199 for Fox for 12 month overseas subscription. That gets me all games every week, SOO and GF channel 9 coverage. If there are any tests in Australia and the shows. I have tried using a VPN to watch World Club Challenge but it didn’t work. There seems to be a few copyright restrictions.

Japan. it was $189 until this year. Went up $10, then games were cancelled and I was billed. With the exchange rate it was cheaper that last year. They emailed a few weeks ago and the subscription is good until June, next year.
