  • New rule: Six-again for slowing down the ruck

    DT today:

And teams that try to capitalise by slowing the ruck will be in for a rude shock.

When the game resumes on May 28, referees will be told to immediately restart the tackle count, rather than blow penalties, for ruck infringements.

The decision to award six more tackles rather than penalties will greatly increase game continuity while providing a disincentive for breaches that impact on the speed of the ruck.

Will Roosters be any good at 'SuperLeague'?

Is this designed to nullify our defence?

I think this is a great move and should benefit us. It will greatly impact on teams like the Storm and the Tigers, who I feel have been getting away with laying over our players trying to play the ball quickly for far too long. It is well overdue IMHO.

Some people believe supporting the Roosters
is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed
with that attitude. I can assure you it is
much, much more important than that.

It's a good rule. I think this will affect all teams. But I can predicts we will concede more of these penalties than all the other teams (according to the refs).
      That's a guarantee.

As long as the 6 again is blown fairly......which it won’t
        Red, White and Bluesters!!!

Great, JWH may as well not tackle anymore, he gives away enough penalties as it is, this won’t help him.

Giving refs more influence over the result of games.

I can see the 'darlings of the league' teams rolling down the field ...piggyback six-agains in their favour, piling on tries at will...when playing us.

Will we be allowed to make effective tackles anymore, completed tackles?

You'll like it when the Roosters get the advantage but then you'll be whinging when you think the opposition should not have had their tackle count restarted but the ref restarts the tackle count for them.

Teams will spend longer on players for the first two tackles while teams come out of trouble because now the penalty isn’t as significant. If you’re allowed to quick tap it may free things up on early tackles as teams are coming out of trouble.

Actually, come to think of it, does this mean teams no longer have the option of going for the penalty?

In the Melb v Easts games for the last 3-4 years where the difference was 1 or 2 points, how will this work out?

Watch for all the dummy half running and Souths taking their surrender tackle to the next level!!

I've thought for years that the kicking for touch from penalties should be abandoned as it was too big an advantage for leg up penalties. Why not make all penalties just taken from the mark.

Wont affect us on our line , we are constantly giving away penalties then to slow the play down so nothing will change

With the penalty the opposing team gets six more anyway. I guess this just means there will be a few seconds saved and the attacking team can get on with it. Anything that speeds up the game is a good thing. Next to go should be scrums. An embarrassment to the game. Just slows it down and it’s no contest so get rid of them.
