  • Young Roosters in 1st grade 2012

This is an extract from todays article in Sun Herald.

S.N being Steve Noyce, is his reply when asked about the future at the coaches forum.

    The future …

SN: ''In 2012, it's exciting times. In the senior playing group there are only three guys over the age of 25. That's quite remarkable. Mini, Braith and Sammy Perrett. Our average age is 23.2 - that's clearly the youngest in the NRL. That means there's plenty of energy at training, a heap of energy, a heap of enthusiasm and a heap of effort.''

We will be a very inexpierienced side next year, when you consider our 3 oldest players are at fullback, wing and 5/8 it will leave a very young forward pack.

They say games are won in the forwards.

There was an article in same paper that said we have $300 000 left in our cap for 2012.

I am not doubting the quality of the players we have but taking into account the lack of expierience, and possible cap space, i do find it interesting ryles was let go.

Will be very interesting to see how we fare if either Mini or Anasta are out for extended periods through injury. By the sounds of it Anasta will be in the team in 2013 no matter what. But it would be interesting to see if the young guys that need to step up could hold their own in first grade without the experience of these players to guide them. I think Pearce is up for the captaincy role and we have a lot of young natural leaders in the side already. If this is Mini's last year it would be good to trial some of the promising young fullbacks we have in our ranks. I think Alofa would get the first shot. He seems to be very well liked by the playing group and I'm very impressed by his communication, safety and ball playing out wide. Tuivasa-Sheck and Wells are 18 and 19 respectively and probably still a bit green, but maybe later in the year they will be close to pushing for an opening. Can't wait to see how of these younger players like Moga, Evans, RTS, Wells, Ailaomai, Henry, Liu and Dumbrell go in the trials!!!

I dont feel letting Ryles go was a good decision... forward always miss a couple of games due to injury and Ryles would have come in handy either starting or off the bench..

i thought he went well in 2011

I think ryles walked out on the club and chose to goto The Storms, huge lost to us as he brings experience.

I think the real reason for him being shown the door is probably more in the line of not being in Smiths plans for the future.
Insiders touted, privately, that Ryles was soaking up too much of the salary cap so had to be let go to ensure other younger players weren't pushed out. Sounds all nice & cozy but for the fact that it has come to light that they now have $300k handy. WTF???
Personalities aside, I think that this was a good player lost, even if only as a back up for injury.
Lets be honest, the guy could run hard at the opposition & hurt them too.
