  • Well done Nick.

THE Sydney Roosters will honour league legend Arthur Beetson by flying the 1975 premiership-winning squad from Sydney to his private funeral at Redcliffe on Friday.

Mostly Beetson's family, closest friends and his old Roosters teammates will attend the service at Dolphin Oval, the ground where he wound up his illustrious career as a captain-coach in 1982.

A handful of current players who were close to Beetson, including veteran front-rower Petero Civoniceva, have also been invited by the family to attend the funeral.

In a moving gesture, Roosters chairman and long-time Beetson mate Nick Politis is paying the airfares for the entire squad, the team Big Artie skippered to a thumping 38-0 triumph over St George at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

The 1975 team from the "white boots" grand final was Ian Schubert, Bruce Pickett, John Brass, John Rheinberger, Bill Mullins, John Peard, Johnny Mayes, Ian McKay, Elwyn Walters, Grant Hedger, Arthur Beetson (c), Ron Coote and Kevin Stevens. Reserves: Bunny Reilly and Des O'Reilly.Glamour fullback Russell Fairfax, who missed the grand final with injury, and centre Mark Harris have also been invited by Politis.

"Nick thought it was important for the club and the game to honour Arthur in this way," Roosters chief executive Steve Noyce said. "We've spent a few days tracking them down."

Beetson's premiership team, led by super coach Jack Gibson, was regarded as one of the greatest club sides in the history of the game. Even the team's trainer, Mick Souter, has been invited by the Roosters.

And in another fitting tribute, Channel 9 has decided to cover his State memorial service on Sunday, December 18, live from Lang Park, where thousands of fans will be in attendance.

"It would be remiss of Channel 9 not to make the effort," the network's chief executive David Gyngell told The Daily Telegraph. "It's the least we can do to celebrate the life of a truly great Australian."

Nine will even interrupt its coverage of the Masters golf tournament to cross to Brisbane for the memorial.

The coverage will also be shown on the big screens at the Sydney Cricket Ground from where Men of League chairman Ron Coote, the NRL and the Roosters will invite the public to attend a memorial at the ground.

And Beetson will be honoured with a bronze statue at Suncorp Stadium, alongside Queensland legends Wally Lewis and the soon-to-be-erected Darren Lockyer sculpture.

    Kudos Nick.

    Here's an interesting tid bit...

ANTHONY Minichiello is quickly realising that what he thought would be the ride of his life in the Sydney to Hobart could be more like a Bass Strait boot camp - complete with crash tackles, king hits and body slams.

The Roosters five-eighth is the latest athlete to join the crew of Anthony Bell's supermaxi Loyal for the race south.

Good on him. Very generous indeed. Would love to be there not only for Artie but to see them all again. All my childhood heroes in one place would be fantastic.

Channel 9's effort may go some way to repairing the damage from giving that ganja addled moron from Port Macquarie money for his story.

With a bit of luck Minichiello will end up on Gilligans Island.

                            Kudos to Gyng as well.

I can visualise Artie & Kerry Packer playing cards, having a drink, smoke and a laugh like the good ol' days.

May they R.I.P and send our team some positive energy.
