  • Fitzy's camp report

G’day everyone and a big hello from Sunny Avoca!

I’m up here with the boys at a unique three day training camp where we are putting the boys through their paces on the training field but more importantly trying to help the boys bond together and make the best lifestyle decisions.

It’s no Holiday Inn up here, the boys are staying in really basic self serviced apartments but that is exactly what we want.

The boys have had to take responsibility for themselves over the past couple of days.

We have split them up in to groups of five and given them a limited budget which they have to live off for the 3 days.

They have to cook every meal for themselves for the entire three days and the boys seem to be doing it very well.

Organic is the buzz word with the boys at the moment and they are all digging in to the organic stuff like it is going out of fashion.

The days have been very long and require the boys to be well organised as there is little time to prepare food between sessions.

The schedule has been a little something like this.

Wake up, cook your breakfast, strap yourself, drive to training, race back to the apartment and cook your group lunch, head straight to your weights session, then head straight to the physios for recovery/treatment then back to cook your dinner before video analysis of training and games at night.

As you can see no mucking around here!

At this stage it is all about preparation, focusing on the small things and
hammering out our expectations for the year.

The boys are responding really well and jumping out of their skin with excitement so the real challenge is to keep the boys calm and remind them the season is still a few months away.

I’ll fill you in how the camp finished tomorrow.

    Cheers,
    Fitzy

They're grown men ffs. I don't think 'fending for themselves for 3 days is too hard a task. Welcome to the real world fella's.

On a different note, they're not far from my joint, i wonder where they're staying and training?

You might hope so Greedy, but the fact is, a lot of these guys are over-pandered-to, big kids who don't have a lot of "real world" experience. They may be learning some valuable lessons...

Jake found his path to redemption in cooking schnitzels......maybe the Roosters think they are onto something. Food preparation may be the first step in the path to enlightenment.

Maybe TCarney shouldve been sent to Masterchef instead of being sacked.

Organic would be eating into that limited budget.

I hope they're nowhere near that Jimmy Blacksmith wannabe Malcolm Naden.

I think we're banned from all decent hotels in that area after a certain incident.

Bet JAke is in demand at Breakfast, lunch and dinner (plus practice lunch and practice dinner of course).
This sounds a gazillion miles away from where they were pre-2011 season. Fitzy does make you feel a bit more confident as to where the players heads are at before the season starts. I'm reading and I'm liking.

Ringing now for the maid to cook tea, bring the washing in and tidy the place up a bit.

                      Now you tell us FF!!!!

Definately... every comment on twitter made by any player about training and the team has been ultra positive, they all seem to be loving training/being together and there's no better intangible then that going forward in 2012.

Example right now that I just read:

                          Krazykroc Michael Fleming
@MartyKennedy89 Hey mate how was the camp ?

Show me a club where its players aren't saying the same thing at this time of the season?

Well they would have the previous year to compare it to, and it seems a lot better this time round.

You're right though it won't mean anything till the season starts and we see how they perform. But all good so far!
