I was going to say that Braith Anasta is our Ricky Ponting but realized, no matter what I think of Ponting (flat track bully, hid behind Warne and McGrath and has been found out since for starters) he has achieved a hell of a lot more in his chosen field than Captain's Not Courageous.

If we reach a stage during next season where we know that we will not make the 8 then Anasta should be stripped of the captaincy and have it handed to Friend or Pearce. It will give them an opportunity to get used to the captaincy before the following season. For memory this is what Freddy did in 2009, stripped Fitzy and handed the captaincy to Anasta. The year 2013 marks the beginning of the Roosters next 'decade of excellence', and it will prove to be more successful than the last!
Here's looking at you, kid.

Essentially what you're saying is Braith whinged to the media and Uncle Nick sucked up his pride changed his mind and offered him a contract. Nick Politis? lol.
season 2011.....in the meantime he just had to patiently sit back whilst they worked on retaining some up & coming teamates who themselves were coming off contract. How the media circus eventuated is open to speculation. It certainly brought forward negotiations for a new deal.
Q. Do you think the thought that there wouldn't be as much $$$ in the cookie jar whilst others were getting upgraded deals i.e SKD
may have crossed the mind of BA or his manager?

years ago jack gibson took the captaincy of ron coote and gave it to artie.it worked then as history speaks for itself.
coote never spat the dummy nor did it create a bad vibe within the team.
if our club is so focused on youth then give it to the ego less friend who has shown his self worth via working on his personal shortcomings and his outstanding on field performances.

Braith will be captain next season, what i want to see from him is people leadership. I want to see him lifting the team when they are hunched over in the ingoal after the opposition score, i want to see him talking, keeping confidence up, making the team feel as if they CAN come back and win.
As a captain speaking to the refs, he does that fine, but i want to see him talk to his team.
The Future.......Either Sammy P (regardless if he is on the wing) or Marty K, he is one smart and level headed bloke.

Braith is a very good captain in all aspects other than leading by example. He talk to the team very well I think and they certainly seem like they're listening when he does. He knows the rules very well and is good at talking with the ref and pushing his team's case. He is a very good spokesperson for the Roosters. He should be captain for his remaining time at the Roosters (which I hope is only to the end of next year).
Regarding the future, I do not see Friend as a captain at this stage. He is only 21 and is not a great communicator on the field. He probably doesn't show the refs enough respect to be an effective captain either atm. He would certainly lead by example but I don't think that is enough. Also disagree with the suggestion that Maubs would be a good captain. For mine it's between Pearce and Kennedy. And I wouldn't be at all surprised if they share the captaincy. Pearce is a good talker on the field already, always motivating and has the respect of the team at a very young age. Kennedy would be a brilliant spokesperson for the team and certainly leads by example and is without a doubt the most professional and switched on (and I mean when playing) forward at the club. I would be a very proud supporter to have those two share the role.

Pearce is an obvious choice given his position in the team, but as was said above... Kennedy has the pedigree and the intelligence for the off field aspects also, which in this day and age are extremely important.
Manly share it with Lyon and King for similar reasons.
