Now look at him.
Maloney has reached his playing potential. How long he can maintain the solid, yet not brilliant play, is up to him. He'd be good if he was able to maintain solid. But then again, Anasta ia also clenching his sphincter and playing solid now and again.
IMO Maloney isnt a very astutue purchase. Mind you there's nothing outthere that is for 5/8. So its not like we had a huge choice.
As I said the Jury is out on how great he will be for us...if he doesn his job consistently then Im happy. And it all depends on the forwards aiminig up in a massive way for both he and Pearce to do anything.Alcohol never solved any life problems.....then again neither did milk.

Melon the thing I read about Maloney and tbh I did not watch many Warriors games over the past 2 years was that he was close to a polar opposite of Pearce and Anasta. He had a very high number of tackle breaks and line breaks and very few try assists or line break assists. Pearce and Anasta made 4 line breaks between them last year. I would think the lowest number of any halves (yeah Anasta played half the season in the backrow) pair in first grade rugby league history. Opposition defence's know these 2 have zero running games... At least Maloney now provides that.. Pearce though did have a large number of try assists and line break assists so at least it gives us a pairing which have different skill sets and variety....

The jury would be out for any new recruit that we acquire until they actually pull on the jumper. You can never guarantee how a player will interact in a new environment. Take Thurston for example, sure he is an excellent player in general and no one would doubt that but if he came to the Roosters he'd be in the papers for the wrong reasons a sh!tload more than Carney ever was and he'd probably be sacked within 18 months.
James Maloney well and truly proved himself as a footballer for the Warriors. It's a whole new challenge to do it for the Roosters. But as far as how astute the purchase is goes I'd say the strengths he showed for the Warriors certainly fit with what is needed at the Roosters. Certainly better than any other player available at the time.

I hope Im proven wrong as Id love him to be a big part of a successful Easts. Im just not shooting my bolt yet. Thats all. I think Maloney has had a successful 2011 that will be hard to repeat. He's not Thurston or Lockyer that could turn it on at will. A lot of things need to go right for him....like Pearce.

I've said it before, but Maloney hasn't really impressed me much.
He was made to look good by a very good team effort by the Warriors this year.
He's solid, but not the saviour many on here are making him out to be.
Like the other's, i hoped to be proved wrong although i'm not holding my breath.
