Deserves some cred for reinventing his position IMO. The guy's quite literally an extra forward who will run into the middle, create an overlap by doing so and call for the ball so that he can run at their big boys full pelt. IMO he's becoming one of the most under-rated players in the comp. Certainly won't get the same cred as guys like GI, Folau, Hayne...etc despite doing way more for the game than the lot of them.
Proud Tongan international! Probably only earns 1/2 what he could get by shopping himself around too.
The guy's also played a key role in all 3 of the GF's he's won. Scored a hat trick on debut in Canberra (I remember seeing him named while watching live [forget who - somebody missed out] and being like 'aaaaw fark another nobody' before seeing him play!!) How wrong I was.

Fukking genius telling a guy who's 196cm to bulk up and start confidently hitting the ball up down the middle. As a short back who always relied on his speed, I never thought I'd see the day where I'd be like 'yeah THIS is what a winger looks like!!! 196cm tall and 110kg... regularly hits it up like a front rower!!!'

Every time toops hits up at the moment he either makes a half break and/or gets that quick play that ball that puts us on the front foot and the other legends do the rest - if toops isn’t finishing or backing up trys himself. Makes a huge impact that allows us to play the way we want to. Plus 3 time premiership winner for us - legendComment

Remember his earlier years when he would be pushed back and manhandled bringing the ball back. Now he's a monster and hardly ever is he pushed back even with 2-3 players tackling him. Will become an all time Rooster legend, and in 3 years will be the highest try scorer replacing the Count.Comment

2014,2015 & 2016 i wrote him off week after week. He was so tentative on his carries- his would back into the defence and try to pop a ball out the back or as you say get pushed back like a rag doll. Same with when jumps for the ball in attack- he no longer stops if someone looks like getting in his road- now its eyes on the ball and he is going to jump no matter who is in is way. I love it!!

Coming of age? I’d agree with the coming if this thread was 3 years old. Best winger in the game. Consistent try scorer and best runner out of our danger area. Finally learnt to fight in a tackle. 3 times premiership winner. I’d say he came of age so time ago.Comment
