I doubt Jake will let Verrills leave. Jake will extend his career by replacing Maubs as our utility player, and used to take the load of Verrills and Radley.

SV is a champion player & deserves to be playing as a run on first choice hooker now & I wish it was at the Roosters but Jake Friend who is the heart & soul of the club plays that position & will continue to play there until he decides to retire.
If I was Sam & Manly offered me $500K per season I would accept it. He's a Manly junior & adding him to Manlys team would have them reaching GF's.

It isn't a case of 'not letting' him leave.
It's a case of a shortage a great NRL hookers + a shitload of struggling clubs who will pay Verrills double what we can/will.
The way i see it? The only chance Verrills will stay is if Jake announces his retirement within the next season or Jake suffers a long term injury.
He won't sit on the bench for 180,000k out of loyalty when he can get 350,000k down the road.
And neither would any of you.
It would be sad to see him go, but at the same time if it happens good luck to him. He's earned it through hard work and talent.

Brandon Smith has done it at the Storm. Heck, so has Harry Grant. So why wouldn't Sammy V at the Roosters?
We could always loan him out for a season ala Harry Grant then bring him back when Jake rerires.
Not everyone views life as solely about dollars. Maybe he's willing to sacrifice a couple of hundred grand for a 10y career at the greatest club in the league.

If that doesn't happen then you are absolutely correct. There is no loyalty. Manly also have a promising future with many years left in Turbo brothers, and Fonua-Blake. They are hardly a rabble.

not sure sammy is the same kind of player as brandon smith. smith will always get game time cos he's great with the ball under his arm running hard at the defence.
don't know what goes on in training but sammy has only ever played dummy half when he's on the field.
sammy's signed with us until the end of next year so we'll show our hand by nov 1 this year. with jake only signing one year contracts i can't see us letting sammy go early even if we haven't re-signed him this year.

if he stays at the chooks money and success nearly comes with a warranty. It will pay dividends in the long run. It will open other doors regarding rep football payments, sponsorships and grand final rings. It's a no brainer for Sam, jake won't be around for ever and Sam is young with at least 10 seasons in front of him.

Even Robbo would tell him to go for it if he was offered double.
I think there is loyalty to a degree in the NRL absolutely. There are many players who stay on for slightly smaller amounts than they could have got.
But when you put sigificantly more money + a young family + a very limited lifespan as a professional player into the equation, I don't see there being anything at all wrong with players sacraficing some loyalty to move on. Especially so when not all clubs will show that loyalty in kind when th eshoe is on the other foot.
It would be such a shame to lose Verrills, but besides a turn of fate in the meantime we will lose him if things stay as they are.

There’s a real-life example of how it could pan-out for Sam: Jake.
The club showed faith and built the club around him, alongside Boydo, Jared and Aubbo.
SV could be part of the equivalent, alongside Radley, Chrichton, young Walker, etc.Making Steve Naughton look like Vince Mellars...
