I don't think Smiffy was brought in to win a comp, he's a rebuilder. That's why 2010 was a mindraper, we overdid it and crashed last year. It did more harm than good to get to that grand final.

Lets take a positive from this........Smith coached the knights........knights shouldn't win a premiership

Yes, harsh. He has a track record in rebuilding clubs. I have a very loose connection to him and I think this is an unfair use of the stats. He has left every club in a better state than how he found it, but for some reason hasn't finished the job.

That's abit dumb to say. Bennett left broncos only a few years ago.. Whereas I'm talking about Smith's entire career in coaching.. No club that he's coached has EVER won a premiership to date. Even clubs he coached 30 years ago.

Bradford went on to win 4 premierships, 3 world club championships & 2 Challenge Cups
Hull went on to win 2 challenge cups

Considering you don't seem to accept their existence as a merger then this it's a touch sensationalised. 100 years from now those clubs he coached at the beginning of his career wont have EVER won a premiership.

Souths u23s won the 1981 premiership under Smith. In fact they only lost 2 games all season.

There's a really poorly written Wikipedia entry on Brian Smith that makes the same point.

I wonder if it's the same author?

I like Smithy. If he had gotten his way with Carney at the start of the year the season would not have been as painful as it was. Hindsight is no use but he obviously was correct. The players love him. I hope he sticks around for years to come.

Different coaches have different strengths. Smith's is his ability to cull the deadwood and deadshits (if allowed to by hierarchy) and get the best out of young blokes and lesser lights. He's what we needed when he came to the Roosters and has done what he was employed to do. So why anyone would criticise him I don't know. He's done his job, which is more that can be said for many of the players.

Yes and consider he came within a good old fashioned GF stitchup of winning the comp in his first year with us.

Thats as good as, I would think...I wouldnt place too much emphasis at all on the stat that highlights this thread.
