Union is largely ignored on here.
Still, for those interested - this is a big year for Sonny Bill in a Super Rugby context, but also for his attitude as a player.
The Chiefs are perennial underachievers. They have recently fielded All-Black backlines and strong forward packs with little to show for it on the field. Sonny Bill has had it easy in recent years. Soft rugby in Europe, playing outside arguably the best ever five-eighth and behind a great forward pack for the Crusaders, and playing a bit part role in a rampant All-Black team.
That isn't to say he hasn't done good things, played well and showed his trademark athleticism. But he has had it easier than most. This year he won't - the Chiefs are not a side accustomed to success.
I'll be watching, because this season will tell whether he plays selfishly, or for the team (especially if he signs with us or another NRL club before the end of the Super Rugby year).
