The Roosters also have a full squad - meaning someone would needed to be released (permanently) for us to take on any new players.

we would have to cut one of our squad members and pay them out in full (which counts for the salary cap) or have another team take one of our players (which would be probably only attractive for one our better up coming players eg Farmer, which is not a good deal for 2020 SBW or any other player they have on offer)

1 season only, if Toronto agree to pay out the rest of the season he signed up for then yes I can see him signing on 400K and with Radley, Verrils out already pretty sure we won't have to release anyone in order to put him on our roster for the remainder of the season.

The NRL won't object either as they want the publicity around SBW. If Greenturd was still in charge this would have being definitely voided with some political correctness surrounding it.

Could we release one of our squad, pay them out in full, hire SBW for "very little now, and a lot next year" now on a back ended contract [like Dragons did with Gasnier in 2010], he medically retires end of season 2020, and we re-hire our released squad member next season?

Hahaha I guess technically BB but I think the poor cut chook wouldn't be very happy

Haha nah don't think this would be allowed, we have enough public scrutiny with the cap that would just give them an excuse to get us - not that I think we would anything like that

Just another layer on top of all this is what happens with Toronto Wolfpack - RFL are still to figure that out.

They intend to stay and return 2021 (relegation cancelled today for 2020) so I would think unless punishment is coming (which they really shouldn't be as it was out of their hands and RFL did nothing to help them) that any of their players who are multi year deals (Sonny) are very much still on contact if Toronto manage a way to still pay their bills. It would be completely up to them and no one else to allow players to be loaned out for the rest of the season even if they are forced to return to their home nation

RL media having a field day beating this up bit literally no one (probably not even the RFL or Toronto) know whats happening or what is going to happen yet, and if they don't then NRL clubs can't do anything either

Even if we did get him, at his age, he'd need 5 or 6 weeks to acclimatise to NRL.

But if it helps us get the hatrick, then go for it.

                Absolutely nothing.
                When is he arriving?
He's big, strong, quite fast, and could be able to stop Kikau!

Others got medical retirements [and one player is even playing again.]
I'm not suggesting we do anything illegal...Dragons got Gasnier back for $50, 000 and won the comp.

Haha I know what you mean

Just don’t think you can bend the salary cap rules like that (like releasing a player to get another than re-hiring them back) and I was just saying they probably want an excuse to book us

And it pains me to say this, not only as a fan of what SBW has achieved with us.. but also a loyal supporter of the R,W&B..

If sonny was to come back, I'd rather see him go to the Warriors.

They're up shit creek without a paddle, heck.. they don't even have a boat ATM.. They're doing the backstroke In shit creek.

Sonny would not only provide the talent they desperately need, he would also positively impact the cultural change they need more so than talent.

They're a terribly managed club with a wealth of talent, Sonny could fix that culture same as he did for us when we dropped off between 2010 & 2013.
nice thoughts and i respect you for it, but this is pro sport and we have a chance to win the comp this year and we should do everything we legally and morally can to do that.

Mentioned in a thread last week,

Toronto have granted him permission to play NRL

“there is uncertainty about the validity of playing contracts with the Wolfpack, whether loan deals would be approved, insurance if a player was injured, travel and quarantine procedures and fitness.

NRL.com understands that Wolfpack management have given their players informal permission to pursue short-term deals elsewhere, with the expectation they are available again for the Canadian outfit in 2021.

With just 10 rounds remaining in the Telstra Premiership, Wolfpack players joining NRL clubs may only be available for as few as six matches by the time a deal is negotiated, flights organised and they spend two weeks in mandatory COVID-19 quarantine upon arrival in Australia.”

                                - Chase Stanley (big no)
                                - Ricky Leutele (probably not - but maybe could be back up centre at worst case scenario)
                                - Josh McCrone (maybeeeeee? If the Lam/Lussick back up doesn't work or one of them go down I think McCrone can play a bit of dummy half and also be a halves back up? Not sure though, didn't pay much attention to him in the SL this year)
                                - Bodene Thompson (maybe but would be behind Farmer - probably would have excelled more at a team like the roosters but probably past it)
                                - Darcy Lussick (same as above but is too much of a boof head but has that family connection at the chooks - talent that really didn't go anywhere)
                                - Blake Wallace (who?)
We need a decent rake / halves back up in addition to Lam.
Hutchison simply isn't good enough imo and Lam is very inexperienced (A sunny day doesnt make a Summer).
If you put a gun to my head on the above i'd go Josh McCrone because he is closest to what we need.
Forwards and Backline is fine for now bearing in mind injuries imo.
