What if SBW finished the season with us?

We have the 30 players as required by the NRL but I’m sure not all of those would a chance to play NRL any time soon but I’m sure that once Sonny gets up to speed, he will be the weapon we no longer have with Victor out. So it’s just a matter for management moving a fringe player to the Worriers ASAP!

I think that due to the loss of Radley and Verills, the Roosters will have some dispensation from the NRL to sign Sonny for this year. Then he can stay on if possible for a coaching role next years. Cordner is keen on the idea. It has obviously been discussed at the top. I will be happy for it to happen, he will good to have around the guys.

I would suggest the dinner was to clear the way for SBW to sign for someone else, probably the Warriors. Sonny had a handshake deal with Nick that if he came back to the NRL it would be with us. As these are unusual circumstances, and time has moved on beyond when either party probably contemplated his return might happen, his manager was probably making sure Nick would be OK with him playing elsewhere. I can’t see him playing for us.

We will have to release a player - I imagine a fringe first grader will go (Hutch, Asu, E.Butcher etc) to someone who needs them desperately (probably the warriors). As mentioned in the SMH article, we’ll most likely look at players off contract next year and offer them to leave now and go somewhere else since they aren’t getting game time anyway

He'd play out the season then look for a new contract next year (not with us). $400k would do the job for ~8 games of footy. I'd be confident his body could handle it too. Perfect scenario!
