We have filled that capacity so we would need to release a player to have a spot available. This is beside the point we have reportedly $400k of cap available and the transfer deadline is extended - that’s all great but currently we don’t have a spot to fill unless we get rid of someone.
Garbage the deadline is till alive and the club can change the final roster any time before that.. Any player outside that becomes second tier and can remain at the club..

They would have to release a player as they filled the 30 player roster allowable - i'm not sure why they are entertaining the idea as negotiating a contract/ getting a flight is not straight forward/ quarantine-2 weeks/ getting fit for matches etc could take 6 weeks say- it's round 11 now - be lucky to play 3 or 4 games of the regular season- Will just cause too much distraction with the circus that will follow him- Also 2014 is a long time ago in terms of playing a NRL level of footy. Be 35 too

I would love to have Sonny back at the Chooks . Don't know if it's possible but if he had the chance I'm sure the Roosters would be his first choice . I seem to recollect a handshake with uncle Nick ...

Love to see it happen but don't you have to be an Australian citizen to travel to Oz at the moment , they won't let the warriors wives and family come over so would they allow Sonny ,

No! The English forward who joined the dogs only arrived about 6 weeks ago.

Dont know who was actually watching him play the Wolfpack this year but he was hardly setting the world on fire.

We've already got a backrower who's loosing pace with the game, we can't carry another one for sentimental reasons.

                      Chook.

The only way I would like him to come back to the Roosters would be to be part of the Coaching staff, It would be a new beginning in a new career for him and we know he has the work ethic, the drive and the example, He would be a bonus to have and with other clubs starting to look at Fitzy as a potential head coach the club needs to look to the future to establish our coaching ranks.

Agree he would be a great asset to the coaching staff especially considering Fitzy it seems inevitable when his current contract is up with us will have more than a few teams chasing him as a head coach.

Which is no chance of happening as we had to let Cooper Cronk go from the coaching staff due to budget cuts.

SMH reporting Roosters are closer to signing Williams
                                https://www.smh.com.au/sport/nrl/roo...22-p55eej.html

                                from the article:
                                • "The Roosters are so keen for Williams to return to the club that discussions have been had around the back-rower potentially staying on next season as part of the coaching staff if his deal with Toronto Wolfpack, worth $5 million in 2021, falls through."
                                • "Williams is not an Australian citizen, so would need a special exemption from the federal government to fly straight into Australia for a 14-day quarantine period. The alternative would require him to fly home to New Zealand for a 14-day mandatory isolation before undergoing the same biosecurity measures when arriving in Australia. The Roosters are also forecasting two weeks of training and conditioning before throwing him onto the field, leaving the former All Blacks star with about four games under his belt before the finals should he agree to return. It's understood the hit-and-run nature of the challenge appeals to Williams, who is in the final stages of his glittering career."
                                • "The Roosters would be able to pay Sonny Bill Williams about $100,000 to $150,000 for up to eight games, but he would see only half of that money given the salary cap reduction and the 52 per cent cut in player pay as a result of COVID-19. He would also receive 55 per cent of his $5 million contract with the Wolfpack for 2020."
                                • "The Roosters already have the maximum 30 players on their roster, and have begun talks around moving someone on to accommodate Williams' potential arrival. Loaning a player to the Warriors, as they did earlier in the season with Poasa Faamausili, will not help matters given that a loaned player will remain on the Roosters' books. Drew Hutchinson, Lachlan Lam, Matt Ikuvalu (wrong - he recently re-signed or was that not official?) and Asu Kepaoa are all off contract at season's end and would likely come into the firing line should the Roosters need to move a player on to turn a Williams homecoming into a reality."
                                • "While the Roosters have plenty of money in the salary cap because of Latrell Mitchell's departure for South Sydney, they had also budgeted on forward-paying parts of certain players' salaries to help their 2021 cap situation, including the retention of the Morris brothers."
