  • NRL coaches

Not a great job to have, today Paul Green was sacked bringing the total to 3 for the season which will grow to 5 in total before its over.

So glad we have Robbo, he or Ballamy are the only 2 you would want at a club long term. I read somewhere over the weekend the majority of players rank them as the coaches they want to play under with Robbo well ahead of Bellamy.
Even the great Bennett is just a coach instead of a supper coach these days.

Bennett has the luxury of a SOO team to build his reputation on. He’s been found out at St george and souffs

The question they need to ask themselves is: am I happy being an assistant coach?
      ..it’ll be interesting to see

It's now widely acknowleged that Bennet's strength is in his man management. He is extremely effective in that regard. And he got a bit lucky with a golden period in the 90s with the calibre of player Brisbane were able to attract. But when he doesn't have enough talent in the cattle, he hasn't got much tactically.

Bennett is not what you'd call a master tactician.

In the 3 years there, 3 finals appearances, two minor premierships and a grand final win, as a club you’d be pretty happy with that.

I have nothing against Paul Green. In fact, he is one of the true gentlemen of rugby league. At least he hasn't ruined a club in his wake and been a perennial liar, like certain other individuals. I hope that he finds a new club soon. He will go straight to the top of clubs' lists. The Broncos are a real chance.

It looks like the Cows may get their man Kevvie. The CV has landed in Townsville just like that - funny, that one.

What a merry-go-round this coaching caper is.

Some people believe supporting the Roosters
is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed
with that attitude. I can assure you it is
much, much more important than that.

Maybe in the past when he had the luxury of a never ending stream of SOO players, but today this is a myth. He is keeping the lol@souffs players happy at the moment, but they are playing like shit and nearly every lol@souffs fan I talk too wants him gone as his methods and actual coaching of players is out of date. And as many have said, the one reason he's keeping the players happy is because if he looses the dressing shed, his value in any future coaching gig is severely lessened. He will leave lol@souffs in turmoil as he has left all other clubs in the past decade or more.

                          Chook.

Depends what club they're at. An assistant coach at the mighty Roosters or head coach of a lame roster that's going to end with them having a losing record as a coach and the probability of them getting the sack in 2 and a half years? Hmmmm.

To be fair he got a premiership with St Merge. However (no disrespect to us) he was VERY lucky he played us and not a better team. We were a 1/2 baked, poorly coached rabble who lucked out due to Todd Carney's raw talent (he had the most influential season I've seen any player have in modern footy). Even then we won the first half and it took a VERY lucky try (B-Moz 2m into touch when passing) to rev them up. Further, he was allowed to sign an ex-Kangaroo on $50k a year for the backend of the season (despite the fact they had no money to pay him the minimum annual wage for an NRL player and they were already 1st on the table so didn't need any help).

Knights, Broncos and Souffs though? All he does is buy up a bunch of expensive players (randomly... usually outside backs too?!?!?), max out their cap and kill their player development. With the Knights it was Tahu, Darius and Willie Wanka (for example). Broncos? I haven't followed but eeerm... Darius, Roberts and Benji? Souffs it has been Latrell and Roberts. The Knights and Dragons have been terrible after he's left because he doesn't develop players... he tries to get pre-baked players who can win the comp NOW (if he can get them to find form).

In summary, all Wayne does is:
                              - Buy excess players he doesn't need for $$$ when there's no salary cap space (usually disgruntled ex-stars e.g. Bunji, Darius, Mason, Tahu, Roberts, Latrell...etc - not afraid of using them to fuel an unnecessary media battle either)
                              - Offload all promising talent to make way + pull a bunch of strings to eek out the money (e.g. 'medically retiring' Burgess + GI while offloading Turner and Doeihi in order to sign Latrell... I mean you got your man but at what cost?)
                              - Do a runner before his contract's up, using his CV that says 'won 10 in a row a few decades ago with the entire QLD Origin team at my disposal'.
                              - Behaves like a d!ck to the media
