We were penalised on the weekend for inside the 10 and when Jake questioned him he said we had to wait for the ‘go’ call.
is this a rule because I’ve never heard of it?

Its a Roosters rule only. If you watched souffs on the weekend, they would have been lucky to have been onside 6 plays all game! Dopey bastards still lost!

Never heard of such a thing and it's ridiculous as it means the ref extends his/her ability to influence the game.
Some ref's like to talk to players some don't. It's definitely not a rule and there's no consistency to it.
Should not be up to the refs to manage that sort of thing. Just implement the rules... don't jump early.
Noticeably Gerard and Chris Sutton officiated games seem to flow the worst since the introduction of the new 6 again rule and reduction to 1 referee. By the end of game with the Warriors the rucks were an absolute joke, both ways.. we were allowed to lie on for an age to close out the game. Was a similar story with our game against the Storm, rucks were a joke.
Almost like they're not a fan of the changes and don't want to see the games flow as a result. Just coincidentally brothers?
Genuinely less interested in games they're officiating these days.

I agree.
It is bloody ridiculous and highlights the difference in treatment of certain teams in this lopsided playing field.
MRR or Rabid
Some people believe supporting the Roosters
is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed
with that attitude. I can assure you it is
much, much more important than that.

Every time the Warriors flopped on top of us the ref called out 'TACKLED'... waited 5 seconds, then said... 'RELEASE!!!' No penalty or repeat set was called.
Is this a rule... 3rd strike you get penalised and the ref has to tell you twice before blowing their whistle?
It just the ref saying "hold, hold....go! to the defensive team to keep them onside.
The warriors were so disciplined though, they never needed to be told this
Building on that, as somebody who has reffed a lot of different junior sports, one of the first things you learn is that being a good ref teaches people the rules through consistent enforcement.
I know this isn't U10's basketball (or whatever) but IMO the refs aren't doing the Warriors any favours by reffing them into the game. Guys like RTS are on $1m a year... the ref's not paid to teach them how to play footy! The ref's there to consistently uphold the rules and if RTS (as captain) notices his team's losing because of penalties then he's gonna instruct them to play properly. If not... bad habits sink in.

I heard that too and blew up like a toad on the lounge at home! Just referee according to the rules! If we infringe, blow the bloody penalty. Save your voice. You are there to referee, not to participate in the defensive line! How do they continue to misunderstand their role!? Glad you raised it barryd - helped me get this off my chest!
I'm hoping Gus becomes a touch judge again...so he can come on and support the ref in times of trouble.
haha i remember he ran in and simpkins said 'what are you doing?' and gus said 'i've come to support you' and simpkins looked at him with a degree of scepticism

Like Ive said before every interpretation is subjective. The calling of hold hold go is to try to stop the ref from penalising the defending team from taking off early. There could be a penalty in every ruck or every play because no team has every player on side when defending & most times the markers arnt 100% square then alot of the times the attacking team when playing the ball dont play it properly & its all happening at a frantic pace. So when you are at the game or watching it on TV there is no way you can keep your eyes on 13 defending players the ruck & the play the ball all at the same time so there is no way the ref can.
The calling of hold hold go doesnt worry me.

The issue is it doesn’t happen every tackle. How does a defender know that on this play he has to wait for a go call?
