Matt Sing was my favourite indigenous Easts player. Was really upset when he went to the cowgirls.

Justin Hodges was my least favourite.

A player not mentioned yet that I would have liked to have seen play for Easts was David Peachy. One of the most underrated fullbacks. Should have played more rep footy IMO

      • Matt Sing’s legs moved faster than his body he was that quick.
      • Honourable mention to Amos Roberts who was so elegant.
      • Chicka was my fave in the 80’s.
      • Larpa Stewart was the Ella bro’s uncle.
      ..it’ll be interesting to see

Chicka ferguson one of my all time favourite roosters. We were pretty crap in those early 80's and all I wanted was to see chicka get the ball so that I could see him weave his magic. You look at the wingers now and back to the likes of Ferguson, Morris and Boutead and I kind of prefer the older style slippery guys. I suppose the 'Guru' was a sign of things to come.

Chicka had an incredible step on him and he would be the first defender everytime he ran the ball even from a dummy half run. I remember an old workmate telling me he came down to tryout for the magpies in 1973 , he was old when he finally finished up.
Ashley Klein has been handed the bunnies game tonight for the " pride of the league" in indigenous round, I'm anticipating the dragons will finish up on the wrong end of the penalty count.

Best winger Ive seen. Surprised Chicka doesnt get more mentions even these days.

I remember Ron Saddler and Larpa Stewart from 1967. Ron made the Kangaroos that year as a hard running harder tackling centre, Larpa was a 70KG wringing wet winger.

Speaking of Paddo and Indigenous players - local Greg Townsend was a gifted player but had Fairfax in front of him. He got a run on in the 1st world club challenge. Greg glided when he ran. Up Easts

Rod Silva had an amazing side step and scored some scorchers of tries for the Roosters, the only thing that let Rod down at times was his defence which could be a bit suspect but it could be forgiven for the amazing tries he scored, unfortunately Rod was a victim of a high Les Davison shot which broke his jaw in back in 1992.

I used to get my hair cut at a barber on Crown st near the Bentley Bar in the 90s and Greg Townsend used to pop in and chat to Nick my barber, i remember one time Greg turned up with pairs of 501 jeans which fell of the back of a truck i ended up getting two pairs for a very good price. He told me a story about when he played a reserve grade game against Canterbury and his opposition winger scored 3 tries against him, that opposition Canterbury player was Chris Anderson.

Thats too funny. Greg is still waiting for his man of the watch award against wests on Lidcombe Oval. He filled in for Fairfax that day.

Nice tribute from the Club on the website.

Some great names on the honour roll that I missed.

Do any of you guys with the good memories recall Peter Flanders?

Also, I didn't realise Terry Fahey was Indigenous
Indigenous athletes have played a significant role in turning the Sydney Roosters into the proud Club it is today.

Kevin Stevens, great utility player, played 5/8 and lock and was there during the golden era of 1974-75 and scored 3 tries against Manly in the 1975 Preliminary Final and was part of the 1975 Grand Final team. He became Easts main string goal kicker in 1977 after John Brass left and played till 1980, he switched to Parramatta and played in the 1981 Grand Final.

Its funny Kevin Stevens isn't on that list but he is on this list of the top 100 Indigenous players .

Big Artie was the greatest - not that I saw him play all that much. Also Salvo, Walker and Sing were some of my favourites.. I was also a huge Latrell fan which is why his heading to the enemy was such a disappointment for me.
