  • Indigenous Roosters

With Indigenous round approaching there's a really interesting article on Roosters Trainer, Travis Touma and his Indigenous background on our club website and nrl.com

Roosters fans can be very proud of our Indigenous heritage and the clubs commitment and contributions to First Peoples issues and causes. The clubs Reconciliation Action Plan is worth a read, although I think there may be further initiatives that have been implemented since its publication.

I guess when we think of our favourite Indigenous players one stands out and Arthur gets my nod, but Salvo is not to far behind. Salvo was definitely our rock in hard times but when you think of the skills he possessed he was so much more than that, he rally did do it all. Interested to know if anyone has different views. Keeping the way he left separate does Latrell get near the top of the list for anyone?

Putting a different spin on it is there is there a favourite Indigenous player from another club that you would have liked to see play for the Chooks? As a kid I was in awe of Larry Corowa and would have love to see him streaking down the side line in the RWB.

BTW. Been watching the footage and I reckon 74/75 Artie would kill it in the middle in todays game.

I am glad you brought that up about Travis and our Indigenous initiatives. Its really important that while other clubs may carry on about their Indigenous culture, the Roosters are doing so much more than any other club in fact we are doing more than all but a handful of organisations/business in the country
The Internet is a place for posting silly things
Try and be serious and you will look stupid

We should tell old mate Neil Breen this after he was writing click bait articles after the GF saying we needed to do more as a club than just be successful on field as that's why its justifiable for clubs to hate us lol

I’ve always said that a team needs an indigenous player in the side to win a premiership. After reading this I realised that we now don’t. Travis is gonna have to replicate his 2019 GF performance to help us get a third consecutive trophy.
            ..it’ll be interesting to see

                Andrew Walker deserves a mention.

My old favorite was LaPa Stewart, a good winger, and of course Artie was the best.

Artie without doubt would have no problem dominating today’s game even though he was well before my time I have watched my fair share of the big man.

I would have loved to have seen Preston Campbell play for us I think he’s one of the best eyes up footballers in my time watching the game so much pace and natural ability and gave away so much size, however he never backed down, on top of that he’s exactly the type of player, role model and just a mans man that’s the Roosters model good person I remember a few months back someone on here sharing a story about the man something along the lines they played a match against him and he ended buying everyone a drink and just wanted to be around people. Legend for sure, he was left out of the indigenous squad of the modern era, however I would be hard pressed to squeeze him in somewhere he deserves a spot, how Cody Walker was selected ahead of Prince and Campbell I’ll never know.

Latrell for me, followed by Fergo. I was very disappointed when they both left us. Latrell, Fergo and GI are three of the most powerful runners I've watched.
I'd love to see Jesse Ramien or Kotoni Staggs play for us, both are young. The winning culture at the Roosters would be good for these two.

The three elites who stand out for me are:
                            Artie
                            Andrew Walker
                            John Ferguson
