  • Brandon Smith

Surely with Friend nearing the end of his days, Aubbo impending retirement, this bloke must be a serious target, he wants to play hooker, Smith, now Harry Grant are in front of him at The Storm, Storm can and will not keep both. Our Kiwi connection may help to snare him, dollars may be the only sticking point, I’d love him at the club

    What about Verrills?

Id take Verrills over Brandon Smith every day of the week. Friend will play on for another 2 years I think so Verrills if he stays is next in line then it will be young Lussick who is in the Roosters system. The Roosters dont need B Smith but the Tigers (if Grant gos back to Melbourne) & Dogs do.

Comparing Verrills to Smith is the equivalent of driving an 80s Valiant Galant or a 90s Torano SLR, Verrills is a talent, Smith is next level, I don’t think it will happen, but I wish it would

I would never take the wheel of cheese ahead of Sammy V, personally.

Brandon Smith is a great player but I'd much rather Verrills. Smith would be a good fit for the Bulldogs though, his aggressive style complements the 'dogs of war' mentality the bulldogs have been striving to regain

I think Smith is a better player....but i think Verrills offers much better value as Smith would demand much more coin. Verrills delivery is excellent and makes his tackles. He also seems like a class act off the field and is suited to what Robbo and co have built. Verrills for me

you can't just dump the young guys coming through. without sammy filling in last year not sure we win the comp. he could be something really special. love the way smith plays but you can't have everyone.

I don't even see Brandon Smith as a dummy half prospect anymore, he seems like a Lock to me these days.

Agree with you zac, Verrill's has done everything asked of him and more, no way I would be flicking him. If he were to go, I really think Lam could be a better dummy half prospect than half if he works on aspects of his game.

I'm not actually sure that Hooker will be Smiths best long term position anyway. He seems more suited to the back row long term to me, and he's probably only going to bulk up more in the next few years. I might be wrong, but under the current rule interpretations the very fast, more agile hookers are likely to me of most value. Guys like Cook & Koroisau will kill it (providing their pack performs well), they are the types most likely to flourish.

I talk a bit to Brandon's father, and he is adamant that Brandon is a hooker. They were made promises to go to the Storm (reluctantly left the Cows... though Paul Green etc didn't help), and is very frustrated.

Brandon badly wants to be the Storm 9. He tries to focus on the positives that he is learning from Cameron, and is in a strong team/ culture. But he is seriously frustrated and wants the Storm to stop lying.

Maybe lock but not second row. If I’m coach I want that bloke running straight and hard up the middle. He’s an awesome player.
