Robbo has said in previous years that he will rest players when he feels they need it and he doesn't care who the opposition is. Does that mean that he plans on tanking? We aren't freaken AFL and benefit from tanking ffs.
Of course he will plan to win every game. But he has one game in mind the whole year.
The suggestion was that if we are going to rest players who are running out each week with a minor injury and need to have a week off before the semis that the Storm is the ideal game. Giving them less minutes during a game to recover from an ongoing injury is like taking nurofen for a chronic sore back.
This time of year we usually have byes but this year we have to more or less make our own. We don't have the luxury of having only one or two injuries and resting one or two players one week at a time. And Robbo will give them a week off at some point no matter who the opposition because it is Robbo's style and he has done it every year for the last 7 years.
But why risk giving them a week off them against teams like Dragons, Tigers and Broncos when they are games we can win in the next four rounds with all our current injuries. But rest one or two players in those games could risk a loss that is an unnecessary risk.
The Storm is the only game in the next 4 that we are likely to lose if we still have 5-6 players out. I hope that doesn't blow anyone's gasket. The guys that come in will do their job. If we lose that game it doesn't matter in the bigger scheme of things. If we have 3 or 4 back in the next couple of weeks then great. Resting a few won't be as huge a task for us. But it is only 12 days away.
After the Broncos game we have four games left against better opposition. It is our spring board to the finals and more difficult to give them a rest so close to the semis.
Some of you sound like we are going to go straight to the GF undefeated for the rest of the season. Here's an exclusive for you. We won't.
It is ok to risk losing one game out of the next 8 for the benefit of freshening up guys that need the break before the run home. Why risk more than one game?
I apologise in advance to those who I have offended who I have a different opinion to.
And yes I know that Robbo won't read my post and TIT.
sacrifice my ass... last year in one of the game we beat the Storm I think with 5 players out.
There's no sacrifice games in the chook players ...remember they play for premierships. Gamoto
Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe
This idea to me is someone already looking for an excuse on loosing the game. They can go into the office and say yeah we lost because we rested half our team.
I think this is a 50/50 game, happy to take the 2 points but if we loose I only want it by a few points to keep our confidence up and keep our excellent for and against.
I know we won't win every game for the rest of the season but why more or less throw a game.
Robbo is going to face an interesting balancing act when the time comes to name the team against the Storm does he go all out to try and beat the Storm by rushing back guys like JWH/BMoz/Jmoz who could all be available or does he play the long game with an eye on the finals and give them another week of recovery in the hope they will be healthier come week 1 of the finals.
Get the impression that Cordner/Crichton/Toups won't be available for selection.
Also think there is a decent chance Butcher cops a suspension for what looked like a crusher tackle on Sims last night.

But we don’t really know if he’d be rushing them back. They may genuinely be ready.
I think it’s a given that Angus and Toops won’t be back.
I suspect Buddy will get his wish especially if Raiders lose to Panthers. The way I see it the only game we absolutely need to win is against the Raiders to make sure we remain in the Top 4.
That does not mean we are going to throw the game as some boneheads have interpreted this thread. It means the same as last night, we will risk a loss to make sure our players are where they need to be come finals time.

Its probably more risky playing guys who arent ready.
If Smith doesnt play next week, we could knock the Storm off with last nights team.

Agree. The discussion is probably more about about the grey area such as minor niggles, or resting uninjured players that have pushed themselves in recent weeks. SST falls into that category having played big minutes recently. I am sure he will be rested at some stage even though he may not need it at the time.
Thirteen clearly not old enough to remember Gus resting half the team back in 1998. He would otherwise already been supporting another team.
