A good line up but no mongrel in the back row, only one mongrel starting and two on the bench [Tasi Masoe]?. Tasi will be a starter in 012, Other packs need to be looking over their shoulders as soon as the whistle blows.

Looks great mate. I'm just wondering if we are a prop short? Agree with letting Symonds go. That kid has to show something for the Bluebags before he gets a sniff of first grade again. Like Mitchell in there as well. I hope Smith doesn't use Friend as a backrower this year when Mitchell is on the field. With our pack we can afford to have two specialist hookers. Smith just needs to get their rotations right.

Also, how useful would Jason Ryles be right now? He was awesome at the back end of last season ever since I gave him a talking to at our game against Penrith at the SFS (LOL). I have no idea about the financing and juggling that goes on but if we had a chance to keep him I feel it is looking like a very poor decision to let him go. We need that young Monster from Newcastle or one of our young props to step right up.

I dont understand for the life of me why we are trying to let go of Guerra. He is one of the best second rowers at the club, and I understand we have plenty of youngsters coming through but Guerra is young too.

I am sure by next year after we let go of Anasta and Mini and some second string players our priority has to be in retaining JWH, Guerra, Cordner and Mose.

Smith likes to have his forwards to have a element of second phase play, at the end of last year it was Ryles/Takarangi, I just can't see Smith going with a backrow of Maubs/Guerra/FPN it doesn't give us much second phase on the fringes.

unless he starts Tasi/JWH as second rowers and gives them license to offload, I think we will see Takarangi play more minutes than many on here think, its a shame Cherro has such a horrid run with injuries because he has size/skill to match that role perfectly.

why do you think the club chased SBW it was for his offloads on the fringes that will create opportunities for the players around him, even with Maloney here in 2013 we are lacking that creative spark in the halves/fullback and most of our best attacking plays are likely to come off second phase play.

I think too many people are basing this on potential and not current ability. The post refers to start of 2012. JWH, based on last year is a must to start. First and foremost I base this on ability, then the fact he is injury free and battle hardened by comparison, and also an element of seniority. He deserves a starting spot.

                              8. Kennedy - one of our few workhorse props with a big frame and big impact.
                              9. Friend
                              10. Tasi - similar to Kennedy, and can really hit in defence.
                              11. JWH - I would play him in the backrow because it gives us more go forward, a bit of extra intimidation in defence, and because I think he has a skill base we haven't tapped into yet, which will flourish on the fringes.
                              12. Guerra - seems to be forgotten on here; he deserves a starting spot on consistent performance last season.
                              13. MAubs - another forgotten man, was absolutely key in 2010, a workrate to rival Friends and a Smith favourite.

                              14. Mitchell - will need to work hard to stay in the team, as Mortimer looms as another Smith fave.
                              15. Masoe - the club would be (and is) hoping for a boom year from the big fella. Sighs of relief when an opposition sees the back of Tasi/JWH wouldn't last long if you brought Mose on.
                              16. Taikarangi - deserves a crack over guys like Cordner and Cherrington after good form in the back end of 2011.
                              17. FPN - aim up or piss off time for Frank, he's on too much to be as inconsistent as he is. There are plenty of young blokes (Cordner especially) who deserve this spot as much if not moreso than he does. I'd give him four or five rounds at most to pull his finger out, or he'd quickly be on the outer.
