skid had some surgury during the off season . this coming season might see him play with more confidence, we all know confidence can breed success, but he does need some personal coaching, if we can see it surely some of the many coaches employed by our club can see it too? have a few words to him fitzy hell listen to you!

It's got all the makings of a typical SKD break or half break that ends in a turnover. Why isn't he holding the ball tucked tight into his body? Why isn't coach Smith teaching him to hold the ball securely. I don't know if I can endure another season of watching promising attacking raids result in turnovers because Kenny-Dowell can't hold onto the F...ING BALL!!!! Every time he gets the pill and starts waving it around in one hand my heart is in my mouth. Sure he has done some great things for us in the past, best of all being the extra time try against the Tigers in 2010 but how many games has he cost us? Last year he topped the stat for line breaks resulting in turnovers by a country mile. Rugby League games in this day and age are generally won by the team that makes the fewest mistakes. The NZ national side wasn't taking any risks with him for the Tri Nations for obvious reasons so here's a memo Brian - either teach SKD to hang onto the ball or use a centre who's not going to give the ball to the opposition just about every time he runs it. Am I the only one who can barely watch when ever Kenny-Dowell gets the ball or are there others in Chookland who feel as I do?
Get used to it...Sonny Bill's gonna bring alot more of that carry.

He was also better in 2010 with a flying Carney creating so much space for him. 2011 Carney went to shit as did SKD's game.

He's a gun and only that. ANY club would take him, and we're lucky to have him as we don't have THAT much talent this season.

I think the off-season is just making people bored and angry because there's nothing to watch. During this period the usual suspects get grilled, then everybody shuts up when they have a gun season.

          ---

If I listened to this forum during the off-season then I'd think that Mose, JWH and all the other big boppers who don't have any speed or trickery, just the 1-off big hit on Jamie Soward or whatever are our best players who should be on millions. This is my last post until the season BEGINS (okay maybe the trials... unless there's a big signing in between or something.)
I'm not going to judge a 350k+/season centre for taking an intercept off a second rower. By that token, Anasta should be considered our best player courtesy of that FG.

This isn't a new phenomena with SKD. He has had these problems from day one. The sad thing is that they have not been addressed. Even in his breakout year(2010) he had some horror mistakes in him. Also - half of his breaks that year were courtesy of Pearce, so i don't know why Carney is now responsible for his dour season.

Either way, given what he is getting paid - the expectations are higher and he must deliver a more consistant product on the field. I don't see why he should be immune to criticism - when Anasta, Pearce etc are open targets.

Exactly! Firstly, Carney was not the only one feeding him great passes in 2010.
Secondly, as the bolded part suggests, he needs to become more reliable and consistent for the money he's on. I love SKD. He's our only outside back who looked dangerous last year. And I will never ever forget that try against Wests in 2010 - just as memorable as Anasta's feild goal. But I swear almost every time he made a bust last year - and he made a few- I would say out loud 'he'll drop it now' and he duly did! He needs to work on his ball control and his passing game. I'm sure this is something Smithy would be working on with him. He's a strong skills coach and I'd be extremely surprised if he wasn't. I do think SKD is very much a confidence player though, and his confidence along with most of the team was certainly down for most of last year - once they started losing week after week. I also seem to remember Smith saying that he (SKD) was pretty slack in the off season prior to 2010 as he thought it would all happen easily for him again. Well he got a rude awakening last year and hopefully this will see him knuckling down now at training and ready to prove 2010 was not all a fluke.

definately cannot call him a legend yet, has the potential to easily become the clubs leading tryscorer by a long shot, and in the clubs rubbish season last year cannot call him a liability because the club from the top down was a liability, 2012 to make or break kenny.

He is still very dangerous when in full flight.

Not a legend, but he is a very good player.

Well he is the best centre we have had in a very long time.... (although not exactly falling over ourselves with class centres the last 10 years)

The only game breaker in the backline and probably our most potent attacking weapon when our halves are up to utilising him

Certainly worth sticking with and hopefully if Moga comes on we'll be dangerous down both sides of the field, which should open things up for SKD (he was essentially double teamed for all of last year as teams knew our options were scarce)

I fully lay the blame at the feet of his lady whom he starting dating at the same time as he signed his contract.....he is too pre-occupied.....and while that may sound funny, it happened the last time he got himself a long term gf as well......

Love the guy and hopefully as Stephen j said, his surgery at the end of last season will do a lot of good towrards getting him back on track........

I tend to disagree. I find not getting sex rather distracting, cos all I'm thinking about is getting sex. I find getting sex relieving and it allows me to not worry about not getting sex. I hope that makes sense lol

Troy the only sex you get is by yourself mate and you get a lot of it. Does that mean you are focused or unfocused?

SKD is a liability. Carney cannot be the blame for his dismal year last year. From memory, he played in the All stars game last year and had many class players around him and performed dismally. Can't tackle to save his life and if he perfoms like he did last year, let him play for Newtown to learn how to defend and do the little things right.
