  • Lam/Simons 1996

For us old folks... remember when the Roosters signed John Simons from Illawarra to be our half... a big signing at the time.
But out of nowhere Adrian Lam appeared and pretty much Simon’s never got a look in....
Wonder if this is a case of like father like son... Young Lam has some qualities I like and looks more dangerous than young Kyle!

    God. Totally forgot about that.

Was a genius at the Steelers.

Perhaps, but I wouldn't rule out Kyle just yet.

I think he will bounce back. Early days for him still.

Some people believe supporting the Roosters
is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed
with that attitude. I can assure you it is
much, much more important than that.

Lam had already been at the Roosters for all of 198p95 and half of 1994. It was a weird signing and thankfully Lam prevailed in the end.

Yes I remember. Simons was signed to be our out and out half, and pretty much came off the bench his whole time with us from memory.

To me was always a tad overweight and had a few off field distractions which dogged his NRL Career - ended up playing at 5 different clubs

I actually think we missed Flanno in general play last time. I think Lam went well and I’m certainly not criticising him.

Robbo canned the woman journo who asked him in the presser who’d be playing next week.

The Lam / Flanno competitiveness is a good thing. I liken it to years gone by between half greats Kevin Junee and Johnny Mayes.

They were two great little halfbacks and there wasn't much between them. I remember Junee had the sports shop up the junction for years.

Yes Johnny - Kevin had the Run for your Life stores and later the TAB at Paddo.

1995 my first year with Roosters. Didn't know much about Adrian. John Simons was available so we grabbed him for 1996. By time 1996 came around, Adrian had really developed. So much so, John couldn't make the starting side. Adrian was our No7 during the whole 5 years I was coach
