Ivan Cleary in a bit of trouble for his "game managing" comments about refereeing in his game.

I thought both of the raiders' fullback's tries were correct decisions, albeit lucky, but ball definitely touched chalk on replays. What did he have to complain about?

Sharks' coach Morris blowing up deluxe about Fergo's knock back. The refs have been instructed this year, it was reported a while back, to not immediately call every dropped ball a knock on, unless it goes forward. That pass hit Fergo's hands above his head and went immediately behind him. I think Morris himself should go back to "under sevens" if his eyes can't see that. Too painful for him to admit it was Johnson's inability to convert one of his side's 3 tries that cost them the game.

    Didn't watch either game but:
    - The Riff flogged the Raiders. It doesn't sound unlikely that the refs interfered to prevent the Faders from losing their PD. Whether or not the tries were legit, presumably the came off a truckload of questionable penalties. Typical.
    - Eels v Sharks was a close game. I think you're right though... when you lose by 2 points (e.g. like when we lost to the Drizz) you can either whinge about a shyte call or ask your troops why they didn't play well enough to make that one bad call irrelevant. Against the Drizz we woulda won if we didn't open up the turnstiles and let two quick tries in. Sure the ref was shyte but you learn nothing if you blame them. The message HAS to be 'make your fukking tackles', not 'we were robbed!!!'

As a fan I find the randomness of the 6 again calls insufferable. When the comp resumed it was a case of everybody gets a quick play the ball so get off right away or it's 6 again. This suited us down to the ground. Now it appears in many games, not just ours, that one side gets away with all manner of skullduggery while the other has to jump right off - but only in the first half; in the second half the rule disappears for both teams!

I watched the game and thought it was a clear knock on by Fergo. Even the commentators thought it was and said 9 out of 10 times it is called. That was the obvious one out of the last ten and not surprising it was Parra seeing the howlers they have got in their favour all year. Parra went on to get a penalty from that set followed by the match winning penalty. It should have been the Sharks with a set of 6 ten out. So I can understand the frustrations in a game where one bounce of the ball was going to win the game. The Sharks tries were wide out. One hit the post. A bit rich to blame the goal kicking for their loss.

That first Raiders try was dubious if it touched and Sutton sending it up try with a mass of bodies made it impossible for it to be taken off them. The other incident was the ridiculous penalty for pushing Croker into touch by a 2nd player when his arse was always going into touch from the first tacklers momentum.
Cummins hammered the Sharks all day and didn't give them anything yet was pulling 6 agains and penalties out of his backside for Parra. He even gave them an inside the 10 after a Parra knock on.
Parra is definitely the league's Cinderella story this year as were Souths in 14, cowboys in 15 and Sharks were in 16. They are a good team but with Moses and Blake defending next to each other on the right they have a major weakness that good teams will exploit.

I think whinging is a popular pastime in greater society. RL is no different

Haha thanks mate...I get very bored with the English language and names. Ivan the Cerebral isn't mine but I liked it as he is such a quietly spoken, understated cat. You guess he's pretty smart.

Didn't he lay into a referee in the tunnel last year and get away with it??

Also, why whinge they are on top of the ladder as they are the only team who haven't had to travel interstate for matches..... Nor had 5 day turn arounds...

Fergo's fumble was a knock on imo. Sure it went through his hands like a knock back but the ball went sideways at best and probably forwards in the air. Most of those sort of drops are ruled knock-ons without anyone whingeing....

Having said that the Sharks suck at kicking goals so if they kicked 2 out of 3, they win anyway....

Re Cleary, I agree, he was carrying on like a twat and deserved the fine....

Interesting time for Ivan to have a shot at the refs credibility. They may be giving him some reason to think like that in future games

yeah the Fergosorearse' fumble was a knock on for mine.

Parra have enjoyed some nice vital calls this year....vs Manly the forward pass that was called on the last play that wasn't.... the Bulldogs try that got incorrectly disallowed for interference in the lead up. You get that sort of luck when you're playing well

It's got me beat why teams just don't aim and run at Mitchell Moses as much as possible. A) its leaves him gassed for his attacking game B) His defensive decisions are hit and miss C) He can pull of some great one on one tackles but then will put in some feeble grabs- especially when he is getting tired

cleary just mucked his criticism up. you can say the officials made a mistake; you can't say the officials made a mistake cos they had an agenda.

some may say he's playing the long game, trying to get the refs to kowtow to him in the future but i don't think so. you can criticise ref decisions intelligently without getting fined.

maybe there were a couple of mistakes there but i personally doubt they were an attempt to manage the raiders back into the game. i agree he's come across as a bit of a whinger.

                            ivan the lamentable.

He was close to the truth and it happens in most games. never the less he was fined for being a fukwit if that is the case he should cop a fine every day of the week
