  • If there's an upshot to tonight...

The upshot tonight is that my blood pressure's fine. I just turned it when Olam scored (score way outta reach), grabbed a coldie outta the fridge, smashed some more of my birthday cake, played some video games, did a few lessons on Duolingo and had a laugh about how much we s*ck to this awesome Spanish dude who doesn't give a shyte about footy.

Last time around I thought we coulda won so got all worked up. Tonight? LOLz... I gave up pretty quickly!

The upside is half a reserve grade side with 15 fit players got behind 0 to 24 with about 30 mins to go and instead of getting flogged they dug in, busted there arses and got beaten by 3 tries. That is the upside.

Upside is we can save our money on buying tickets for the finals. Yeah we have a lot of injuries, doesn't mean the players available just turn up for their appearance money.

I think they put in mate and just got beat, yes they made mistakes but they didn't bulge, and yes luck with injuries is everything in the NRL. It can decide your year, just look at us. You should save all your money and never go to a Roosters game again.

The upside, to me, is that we are still hanging in there fighting to defend our back to back titles against 15 other teams trying to hunt us down, nearly every referee and official in the game who is overtly biased against us, a media conglomerate that seems to be always stacked against us, and an administration that wants anyone other than us to win it this season. All in all, we are doing pretty well, on the whole and, so to me, that is some big upside.
            MRR or Rabid

Some people believe supporting the Roosters
is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed
with that attitude. I can assure you it is
much, much more important than that.

Regarding the mistakes, I think they crept in because we were trying to play footy rather than saying 'oh they are tough so we will go all conservative and hold onto the ball'.

I'm drunk so will have a ramble. My worst race ever as an athlete was in year 12. At a state comp (took a fark load of training to get there) our school's coach said 'this will be tough coz they are all better than you + have big names so rather than trying to run with them and blow a gasket... just go slowly and consistently'. I ran well behind the pack the whole way and came 2nd last because I beat a guy who went out hard and was chucking his guts up. TBH I woulda preferred to be the guy chucking because at least he fukking gave it a go!!! After that race I promised never to do it again and that's how I got myself to nationals after schoolboy BS. Had a few races where I went out too hard and paid for it but in the end I got to the point where my mind was programmed to do 100% rather than thinking about different paces for different races. That's when I started recording national qualifiers coz there was no 'play it safe' BS.

Roosters is the same IMO. I was proud of us tonight coz we defended well (less missed tackles than the Drizz), didn't whinge about injuries/refs and at least tried to win the game (resulted in a clunky, error-filled effort coz the timing was out but we fukking tried!)

Well said. I think it will build character. We were totally outplayed. They gotta acknowledge that and own the result.

                  Upside:

We were shown our weaknesses and what we need to do to win in the brave new word of the NRL.

Upsides: Ikuvalu, had a really good game considering the circumstances. Probably the man of the match for us. SST, again tried his guts out and got the kick from the sideline. Tuipulotu, got the try on his debut.
