Just saw a random show on TV about the Mortimer's wine. Daniel's Dad owns a winery up in Orange, it may be common knowledge but I wasn't aware.

    www.mortimerswines.com.au

Anyway, watching Daniel being interviewed made me realise the kid has been hard done by. He is softly spoken. He had a breakout season playing off the back of one of the most dominant performances by a player (Hayne) the NRL has seen. There is no doubt Daniel played well also, but like many youngsters struggled to back it up.

He had no say in his surname. He had no say in the Bulldogs wanting to "bring back one of their own", which resulted in a fight for his services.

I agree he isn't the hottest prospect in the NRL, or in our squad, but he is a Rooster, and we need to get behind him.

I frequent the Swans forum and find no matter who they recruit, the vast majority of members get behind their new players. They just recruited a college basketballer, yet their members will give him the benefit of the doubt.

I hope we judge Mortimor and others on their performances in the RWB only. Forget their past.

Well said Dubai. I was never one of mortimers biggest fans and I have yet to find a place for him in my top first grade side. But I am glad we have a quality bloke like him in our side and will prove to be a usefull utility player. I am looking forward to seeing what he can do once he puts on the RWB jersey.

Good post...I was fairly vocal in another forum that we had signed a pretty average footballer. I still think this.

Bu now we have signed him I wish him the best and hope he shines.

Well said. Lets get behind him and give him a go. He's not a gifted player like Carney but he is a team player and won't be in the papers for all the wrong reasons.

              Great post...
There are many players through the years that i didn't want the Roosters to sign up but as soon as the ink was dry on the contract, they were one of us & deserved our support...
Judge them for how they play for us...
I don't want us to sign SBW but if we do, i'll get behind him & hope he performs...

Are we allowed to be supportive of our players on this forum? I thougnt there was a rule about that.

Of course we hope he goes well for us.

But that doesn't change my current opinion of him - I think he's a reserve grade standard player and is a terrible signing for us.

                        Great post...

I really feel he was hard done by at Parra and suffered partly due to big heads, and their own self importance....After their very publisized re-signing of him and then making him play out his days at Wentworthville....

I do hope he goes well, and perhaps at Origin time he can get a shot in FG and give him some confidence back that he must have lost playing regies.....

Justjuice. No link. Was on one of those 7two or gem channels this morning. Nothing really about football.

I remember seeing a segment on one of the footy shows at some stage (maybe Fox one) about Daniel and his family hosting a number of the parra players at his vineyard. They all slept in one of the barns etc and it seemed to be a great bonding experience for the group. Hopefully some of rooster boys get to experience a visit there as well.

Daniel Mortimer was nothing more than a scapegoat for Stephen Kearney who had a number of non-performing players he stuck with all season but saw fit to dump Mortimer very early on in the piece. Be interesting to see if he shows the same lack of patience with Roberts and Sandow, two very inconsistent performers in the past.

                              The kid can play

His breakout season stats are great, better than Anasta's stats for that season.

His second year stats are not that bad, however, as I have said before, other players around him didn't play well either, including Hayne, Moi Moi. This played a part.

I've been backing him since we bought him, and will continue to back him.

And he is a good person. You won't see rubbish written about him in the paper unlike Carney.
