  • Semi final against Raiders

Just wanted to get your thoughts for the game. I haven't seen much injury updates but I think Robbo said Friend and SBW should be right for next week, huge inclusions and makes me wonder if there will be any reshuffling in the forward pack.

From memory, Liu played the whole of last year's final series at starting prop, with Radley at lock and Taukeiaho on the bench. Is there any reason why we can't shift Liu to prop and put Crichton at starting lock, and Aubo on the right edge (where he started in the GF last year)? SBW can then come on and be our ball playing lock. Whether or not JWH should start this week is up to debate, I thought Collins showed everyone what he can do, even though many still think he's best suited to come off the bench with his impact.

If Friend is fit to play, do we need to carry Lussick or Lam on the bench? If Friend is 100% fit and recovered from the concussion, I'd say no and rather have an extra mobile forward. I think the confidence is down on some of the players, Manu was not involved much at all in that game, no doubt something Robbo will address this week.

There's been a lot said already on Flanagan, depending on how much Lam has been training with the squad, I don't know if it's too late to make that change this far in and it's not like Lam is defensively better, it could be a tense and close match v Raiders, so goal kicking could be crucial.

Lots of inconsistencies with penalties, players put on report and charges over the weekend. I still can't believe Bateman didn't get sin binned at the time of his trip, which could've swung the momentum, what made it worse was that he didn't even get charged. JWH did a trip, innocuous I felt, on Roberts in the Souths game last year and got rubbed out of the Prelim. I think that's a joke. Cam Smith dumped Brown on his head, was just called a penalty by Klein last night, I was thinking why the heck wasn't that on report? Then I realised, it's Cam Smith, but the NRL still charged him today, unfortunately he won't miss the prelim.

Then there's Jennings' high tackle on Olam, looked identical to the JWH on Edwards, but Jennings one was only a penalty and not put on report, that's BS. Is it because it was JWH? Or that Edwards was bleeding?

I think Sticky will be building a war mentality all of this week to fire up his team and the Raiders will be extra motivated to avenge last years GF against us, we must be prepared for that and mark Wighton heavily (which is why I want either Aubo or Gus to start on the right edge for us).

The early report is that Munster should still be fit to play the prelim, don't want to look too far ahead, but it would be a plus if he's out for the prelim. Storm looked strong in their win, but I reckon it would've been a lot closer had they not lost Sivo so early, as their backs got completed dismantled. I think our path now is considerably harder than had we won on Friday, but it's definitely still achievable, the boys need have the self belief.

I have faith and believe in Robbo, the fact we have an extra day to recover and prep and the home ground advantage makes this game winnable.

Tickets go on sale to members tomorrow from 10am, let's fill up the SCG and make as much noise as we can!

Having re-watched the game, a large part of Flanagan's poor defence can be attributed to him not getting much help from Manu. There were a number of times when Manu did not read the play, rushed out and missed the tackle and left Flanagan exposed, it made me wonder would that happen if Flanagan had JMoz defending with him.

Some reasonable points made in there.

Jake and SBW will be back - great.

Collins could start, JWH on the bench.

Keep SST and Angus at lock. Aubo on the bench, maybe. I would be happy to have Isaac at starting prop - very solid - depending on what happens with Lindsay. Give Lussick a breather and bring in Lam off the bench as an impact player.
      MRR or Rabid

Some people believe supporting the Roosters
is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed
with that attitude. I can assure you it is
much, much more important than that.

Manu puts way too much pressure on the players around him as he is always out of the line, seems he has zero confidence in his ability to defend.

If he is the player that everyone hopes he is, he should be able to dominate Croker.

If he is served any ball

Does it hurt our defence having Friend out? He reads the game well and makes 60+ tackles a game in the middle.

I feel the Riff basically just got a 25 minute spell where they got on a roll and scored a heap of cheeky, gratuitous tries down the middle of us (IMO 2 of which shoulda been denied... blatant knock-on and forward pass).

We can do better but time is running out for us to prove it and we're under extra pressure now having lost to the Riff.

With Friend and SBW back I wouldn’t have either Lussick or Lam. I’d start with Liu at lock and keep our starting props with Crighton at right second row.
Bench would be SBW, collins, Aubusson and Sitili.
Flannigan stays at half but Robbo needs to instil some confidence in him to pass the effin ball to Manu more often and to have a run with the ball occasionally.

It's amazing Flanagan has somehow managed to not run the ball enough and also not pass it enough. He's impressively poor.

Exactly. Manu looked pretty damaging with SBW attracting defenders and giving him ball in space. A half that doesn't threaten the line may as well not be there. oh but his goal kicking ffs.

                    I won’t contemplate a loss for a milli-second.

Canberra are a very good side. I expect this weeks match to make the intensity of the Penrith game feel like a training run. Our forwards need to get agro.

Canberra can never avenge the GF loss but winning this match will go a long way to making them feel better.

                    Let’s make Ricky cry.

Manu and Flanno are two very average defenders next to one another. And then there is Sitili on the inside. Recipe for disaster.

Friend's back... gotta remember we were using our 4th string rake and a specialist halfback at #9 against the minor premiers.

All the Riff's tries were from p!ss weak and went straight through the middle of us.

I'm no specialist rake but IMO one of Jake's big jobs is to read the play, grab the break-away runner around the trunk and direct the middles around to make sure they're either joining the tackle or scrambling towards holes.

Flanno helps by taking on forwards/centres (speed bump style) and Manu's been caught with lotsa overlaps over the past few weeks. However, IMO these are a symptom rather than the cause of the problem.

More importantly ....as this week's semi is not a home game for us, even though it's played at our home ground, but technically being run by the NRL it is a neutral game
...does this mean they will try and inflict upon us the Viking Crap at the start of the game ?

                              Oh the one handed clap?

Like that one in the forest when nobody was around, did it REALLY happen? Canberra's sponsors are probably better qualified to answer that one. Maybe their 5G devices will hear the clap and send it home to their master? 'Look look... we intercepted a signal from Canberra!!!'
